S.O.S. - Save Our Sunset Beach from Being Privatized!!

They aren't selling it they are allowing a club to have it for their exclusive use. The club can use it for day camps similar to the ones they hosted at Eden last year as well as all their regular training, games, and of course tournaments. Note that Eden was a school closed for the summer so it made perfect sense but with all the use that the Rapids will get from the club we fail to see just when the public would be able to use it and of course would they or would the public just have to live with 24 posts on another wise pristine beach. We are fighting an uphill battle here as the Mayor is in favour of this as a family member plays in the club and he not only gets a vote on this but will likely work to convince others to support it. This is not a conflict of interest under the Ontario Municipal Act but it certainly explains why this proposal is likely to be pushed forward. We just have to push back as hard as we can.

How is it that they think that Sunset Beach should be privatized and used by a select group of people? This beach belongs to all of us and we enjoy going to this beach any time we feel like it!! It is so peaceful.

I do not think that the volleyball would be a good fit for this beach.
Please do not continue talks with the volleyball organization.

That's why we are fighting this for all kids including your son. The club used the 'it's for the kids' pitch but in the picture attached to the St Catharines Standard article you can clearly see that kids are already using that beach. Kids from all economic demographics.

As a tax payer, I don't want to sell the piece I own! Absolutely rediculous, to even consider this, after all of the work the city has done to make it such a beautiful spot!

I have been coming to this beach for 29years, it would be a shame if I couldn't bring my newborn son to enjoy!

This public beach needs to remain PUBLIC. This volleyball league can find a private property amongst themselves to play at one of their own properties. Leave the Public beach to the families to enjoy

Waterfront spaces are precious and beach areas particularly special. They belong in the public domain.

I've lived in the Niagara area for 17 years now and noticed it's getting harder and harder to see or walk along any of our Lake Ontario.....so don't make it more difficult to walk along that beach area, with building Volleyball nets......too much traffic too many cars!! Leave this area alone for us to enjoy!!!!

I grew up on this beach, it holds a special place in my heart. St.Catharines has ruined Port (and while we can still enjoy the beach...I get drilled enough withvolleyballs there, thanks.)
