It is recommended that The City of St. Catharines look to Vancouver for lessons learned in taking away public access to beaches and to Mexico who has preserved public access to coastal beaches, both Pacific and Gulf coastlines, I wholeheartedly agree that this group can invest monies raised through their registration fees to install sand courts anywhere. I support volleyball courts in city parks; leave the waterfront for the enjoyment of all! Let it not go unnoticed that I sign this petition on Family Day and that this past weekend of much deserved warm temperatures demonstrates how much this beach is valued by all who use it. NO PRIVATIZATION OF SUNSET BEACH. Cathy "G"

This is the only family beach in St Catharines in a quiet area where children can walk in safety. There is not enough space to take the load of traffic that would come with the volleyball courts the children would loose their safe playing area. Have any of the people promoting this project taken time to visit the area and talk to the locals and check the traffic problems that would arise. Think about the many people of St Catharines not just the few in comparison who play volleyball.

Stop allowing greed to take over. The people of the city have a right to enjoy the beach without it being disturbed by development.

Sunset beach is not capable of supporting volleyball courts. Please preserve the beach and character of Port Weller.

Please preserve the beach for the use of all the residents of St. Catharines. Volleyball should be played somewhere else.

To allow such a thing to invade this amazing beachfront where we and others go often to watch the beauty of a sunset feels like a violation, a sacrilege. Please do not allow this to happen ! Volleyball can be played anywhere.

For the public to use, not a commercial venture

Obviously the people in favour of 12 volleyball courts haven't been to Sunset beach on a weekend-- it is packed! The lot is jammed, cars are parked up the driveway to the road, and the beach is full. We would be displacing half a beach of tax paying residents just to allow 48 beach volleyball players (not even all from St. Catharines) a nice view while they play. Truck in sand to an empty lot or find a beach that's not in use.

I am a frequent user of this beach and volleyball courts will ruin it not to mention the trash that will be generated along with left behind beer bottles and such. Please leave it as it is.

Signing this petition is one small step to saving this park for the generations to come. A more important step is to send an email. Parks, Recreation and Culture Services will send a report to City Council. Only feedback from those emailed comments will be used for input for the report. Make your vote here count by following up with an email supporting not losing a single inch of a public beach to a special interest group. Send an email to the contact provided who is Kristen Sullivan using this address [email protected]

The allure of living in this neighborhood is having Sunset beach for all to enjoy. The volleyball courts will add a negative impact to our neighborhood with noise pollution and added traffic. It will also take away from the beautiful, scenic, natural surroundings . I highly appose the proposition of the volleyball courts. This is a public beach ~ keep it public!

Sunset beach is a place my family and I adore going to throughout the 4 seasons. If you take that away my almost 4 year old will be crushed beyond belief!

Turning the beach over to a private club is not the way to serve the public. Just playing volleyball is one thing but not to control Sunset Beach .

Leave the beaches alone! We don't need your volleyball courts and we don't want them on our beaches!
