The lessons I learned participating in NHS theatre were much more valuable than hours spent in classrooms, on stage, or waiting for speech competitions to begin. Robbing current students of a full time staff member will neuter that experience and steal the chance for individuals to really grow in that program like I did. In solidarity, Justen Jones

This is the high school that the Turnaround Arts schools feeds into. They need drama!

As a former theatre student I love the arts and I feel like this is a horrible thing to do to the students of the arts at NHS. I think taking this away is almost criminal.

As a parent, grandparent and retired school social worker, I have witnessed and experienced the valuable benefits of performing arts programming for our students.

Theater has definitely changed my life. And Rixner is someone you can come to and talk to. He's bin there a lot for me and other students. He pushes us to be better in all aspects. I Would not be where I am today if it wasn't for him bringing me out of my comfort zone.

Funding for the arts should be a basic educational expense, not excess spending. We cannot expect to have the next generation of students become well rounded individuals if they are exposed to the arts.

I am a North High Alumni, and I still enjoy returning for the theater productions Mr. Rixner puts so much effort into putting together! This would be a very tragic thing if he couldn't put as much time with the students as possible. Also, as an adult, we don't want to lose him for a different job that he HAS to have in order to maintain an income. SO PLEASE, DONT CUT HIS HOURS, DONT CUT HIS PAY... NORTH HIGH SCHOOL Needs teachers like this one. This is the type of teacher that the students need! They turn to him, they go to him for guidance, and he keeps them on track in classes as well as in the production, it would really be a shame to see all that go downhill. #ImTakingAStandForRixner

I was trash at acting but drama was a great way for me to get involved and still is for others. If they have money for the basketball and football program they should have money for the theatre program as well.

I've seen great plays at North and was even in a few as a student there. The drama department is stronger now than it ever has been. The time and effort involved into putting on these productions are immense. Although it won't happen, rather than cutting his position, Rixner deserves to be paid more.

This is incredibly sad. Mark's program provides education beyond his 9-12 classroom and connects the arts to the community. To undervalue the program like this would be a huge hurt to how far NHS has come in the last few years.

Keep fighting the good fight, y'all. Without ART, Earth is just "eh".
