TO: His Excellency Anthony Carmona, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago

The Chaguaramas Development Authority

Whereas the Chaguaramas Peninsula contains areas of natural beauty, sensitive land and marine ecosystems such as the wetlands and forests, prime real estate, valuable State assets such as the Chaguaramas Hotel and Convention Centre and coastline, and locations of historical value,

And Whereas the Chaguaramas Peninsula is part of the national patrimony of the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,

We the undersigned citizens call upon the government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to immediately desist from:

1. Any activities that undermine or damage the natural beauty, historical value or ecosystems in the Chaguaramas Peninsula, and

2. Selling or leasing the lands and/or State assets at Chaguaramas to private interests below the true worth and value of these lands and assets.

We condemn any activities to the contrary and we further call upon the government to halt any contracts or other agreements entered into that contravene the above.

Respectfully signed,

I was just looking at the count and saw we hit two hundred and fifty which is actually pretty wild because I remember just sitting here typing this out in a total panic about the peninsula. Honestly it is really cool to see that so many of you care about the trees and the coast too because sometimes I wonder if I am the only one obsessing over this stuff.

I just checked the dashboard and saw we passed one hundred names which is honestly wild because when I started this I figured maybe my neighbors would sign and that was it. It feels like people actually care about the peninsula as much as I do though I really need to figure out how to get this in front of someone at the Authority now that we have this momentum.

I honestly did not think so many people cared about the peninsula until looking at the notifications this morning because it feels like we are finally moving past the point of being ignored. Keeping the wetlands safe from all these developers feels like a massive hill to climb but seeing how everyone feels about our heritage keeps me pushing through the noise of it all.

As an expat, can't express enough how much of a gem with respect to the natural beauty of Chagaraumas is. It would be a huge shame to have it developed and a lost opportunity to diversify the economy with eco-tourism.

I fully supporter the Guave Road farmers and condemn the government for illegally selling off their and sanctioning their victimization and displacement in Chaguaramas.

Please save our Nation's heritage, Chaguaramas, that was fought for with the sweat of thousands who marched in the rain to restore the North-West Peninsula for our people.
