Salem Willows Park should remain alcohol free. There are plenty of establishments in Salem to enjoy alcoholic beverages and the Willows is not the venue for cocktails and beer nor should it be.

This isn’t the right location to allow alcohol as it is a family spot. There are many other places to drink in Salem.

A recent post on the Willows FaceBook page states "Salem Willows is such a special place, but it really is a shame that it’s not utilized year-round..." The post advocates the need for restaurants serving alcohol. Well, I grew up Down-the-Willows. Some of my fondest memories are of the Willows after Labor Day and before Memorial Day. Back then we referred to the amusement and park area as "The Line". During the Summer, "The Line" would not be crossed (except for Hobb's) by most of us Willows Brats. Back then, we tended to avoid the park when it was in season. But, between Labor Day and Memorial Day, "The Line" was crossed, the park soon became our playground. The Chase House, Swenbeck's and Ebsens, over on Restaurant Row were shut down. Even the birthplace of the Chop-Suey Sandwich, Salem Lowe Annex was closed for the season (the main Salem Lowe Restaurant, back then, was always open year-round, on Washinton Street downtown). Most Willows Brats never even attended the Reed Fund Picnic (since 1884 until 2017, the fund paid for picnics held at the Willows for all Salem's school kids. The amusement rides hot dogs, chips and Hoodsies were all free to the kids). But we were often found "Over The Line" when it was off-season. Now there is, by some, the misconception the park is underutilized off-season. That's not the case at all. It's used year-round, mostly by locals who relish the uncrowded off-season atmosphere the park offers. Bring in the booze, and like the Reed Fund Picnic, even that off-season tranquility becomes a thing of the past... BTW, my post above was declined by the FB page...

Salem is saturated with restaurants, bars and pubs serving alcohol. The Salem does not require another location, especially at the Willows, to be added to the list. With the addition of a new drinking hole, located at the park, it will be forever changed, especially in the evening and at night. Even Disney World is alcohol free, there must be a reason, right?

As fun as this would be for responsible adults, this could be dangerous. There's all kinds of mischief someone who's had a few too many can get up to that could harm themselves or others, especially near kids and water. Also, imagine how much more litter this could generate.

I am a resident of Lynn and have been going to Salem Willows for over 70 years. Alcohol was never served and feel it doesn't belong at Salem Willows .

Salem Willows does not need alcohol ,there's plenty of other places in the city even boats, don't mess with the original character of the place, it's mostly for our Children.

I agree serving alcohol would change the character of the Willows. Not needed to have a good time and enjoy the park
