This is the most basic of school positions. What kind of standards would this set? Absolutely no.

This is a shortsighted fix that will create long term problems and resentments that will ultimately degrade the quality of Mill Valley public education.

Losing Megan will be an enormous hardship to our children. My kids immediately wrote letters when I told her she might be leaving and I would ask you to please reconsider this decision. Thank you

Meghan Heller is an invaluable part of the education of ALL students at Strawberry Point. She is dedicated and creative and motivates our kids to love to read and research topics of interest. The notion that a random part-time librarian who is not invested in our specific school is a fair substitute is ridiculous. We are far too wealthy a school district to not have a dedicated librarian. Our families give their time and money to KIDDO, PTA and with our property taxes to fund our children's education. In cases like this it is probably wiser for administration to sacrifice a small percentage of their salaries rather than have our children suffer without a librarian. It would be the right thing to do and I sincerely hope you look at administrative finances before you fire Meghan Heller

It’s time that the District stopped assessing the quality of staff by years of service. It seems like a number of staff with decades of service have significantly diminished passion for their roles. Retain the good ones like Megan Heller!

This is simply unacceptable. All elementary schools in the district should be staffed adequately and appropriately. The librarian is a critical part of elementary school life opening the world of books to all children The district needs to find a way to fund our .5 librarian as part of a consistent high quality education.

School librarians are an invaluable part of student achievement. They support all aspects of curriculum, a love of learning and student inquiry.

Reading is the most important skill we want our children to leave elementary school with and an inspiring librarian is key to that. As an Edna parent Mrs Monge has built up a relationship with my children and helps them select books that continue their love of reading and learning. By eliminating this position not only is this extremely detrimental to the children of strawberry but the whole district if the other school librarians will need to take time out from their own schools to fill the void. PLEASE reconsider.

It can not stand that Strawberry Point continues to be the school that suffers from mismanagement and extraordinary talented teachers like Megan Heller fall victim to this. There is a much easier solution to this and I urge those that qualify to retire to do so, so that the talent like our librarian gets the opportunity to inspire and nurture our children. They deserve better! Library, arts and music is NOT where money should be be cut. Personally, I think the district needs to take a hard look at their own administration staff and re-evaluate. Look at your strategic plan for our children. This is not supporting it at all.

Megan has been an amazing addition to our school. She is organized, kind and knows every student. She spends time to suggest appropriate books and follows up with the students after. She is a wonderful asset to Strawberry Point School.

Megan, the librarian at Strawberry, has been an invaluable resource for our children. She knows each one and their reading loves and needs so well. She works with them intellectually and socially. Losing a librarian would be a deep cut for Strawberry.

Given the amount contributed in taxes and to Kiddo by this community, it is ridiculous that Strawberry would be singled out to lose this invaluable resource.

A school librarian is s critical member of the school community along with other educators and support staff. The children at SPS gain great value from the additional support and assistance they receive from our librarian.

Librarians have incredible significance in the formative years of our young children’s lives. Through their expertise, they open up imaginations, dreams, knowledge, and the ability to become future ambassadors of our country and planet. The removal of such a key role for our children at Strawberry would not only be detrimental to the development of children at that school, but would hinder further progress for years to come at Strawberry Point, and ultimately the rest of MVSD. This appears to be a quick fix to a budget issue, but really in the longer term would cause a larger drain on funding at the middle school level when greater inequities would exist, as well as speaking to a possible sense of negligence at the district level, which could affect all schools eventually, if funding issues persist. The issue seems totally resolvable with appropriate, direct, targeted message.
