The blue line added to the US flag renders it disrespectful under the Flag Code. 4 U.S. Code § 8. The display on police vehicles is additionally offensive by suggesting official sanction to the myth that police are the "last line of defense"

The thin blue line apparel, flags and decals being displayed on the back of Springfield Police Department cars and vehicles gives off a racist and divisive message that makes a Black Woman such as myself afraid of the person behind the wheel and the department they represent. It is uncalled for and should be removed permanently. A police department is supposed to protect and serve all people no matter what they look like and having the black and blue flags and decals shows they support the views and domestic terrorist mindsets of white supremacists who fight against racial equity, equality and the right for all people to peacefully dwell not only in Springfield but the USA as a whole. I am disappointed in how Chief Kenny Winslow chose to handle the situation via an article released not too long ago. I shouldn’t have to have my guard up around those who are supposed to protect and serve a community I live in. It shouldn’t have to cross a citizen’s mind whether an officer supports white supremacy or systemic racism when they are calling 911 for help. Please remove the blue and black thin blue line decals and flags so I, as a Black Woman, can feel safe in my community.

This symbol has been co-opted and no longer is just about support for police. It doesn't belong on police vehicles or uniforms (or face masks) in our community.

The thin blue line flag is racist, fascist, and has a connotation of bully power over those they are sworn to serve and protect. The flag does not mean solidarity with the police. It stands for unremitting power over those who are weaker and under the thumb of police oppression. Also, this flag was involved in the Trump insurrection on the US Capitol on January 6th. It would be like flying a confederate battle flag from a squad car...

The thin blue line is a response used currently, to black lives matter. It encourages oppression, and shows that police do not stand with the community or have intent to protect and serve. The thin blue line should be removed from all police vehicles.

The Thin Blue Line was popularized by a racist police chief who used it as a symbol of propaganda. It's been problematic since it's inception. I do however appreciate you signing the petition in order to voice your willfully misinformed opinion.

I have a lot of respect for the Springfield Police Department, and police officers in general. But the actions of some have tainted what the phrase "thin blue line" represents.
To many, it means protecting fellow police officers who have acted reprehensibly. It means lying, covering up, and looking the other way. It means that police officers can act with impunity.
Police officers should *definitely* have each others backs...provided they can still be truthful while doing so, not break the law / code of ethics.
"Thin Blue Line" on vehicles, apparel, or otherwise serves to show citizens that no matter what poor behaviors or actions are taken by the members of SPD, they won't be held accountable. Therefore, it should not be used.

The Thin Blue Line creates an us vs them mentality between police and the citizens they claim to "protect and serve." If you want to restore public faith, you can start by removing divisive language from squad cars.

Why does the thin blue line have so many different reason for the purpose it’s suppose to serve? If it originally started after the 9-11 attack then why is it just NOW being advertised? It needs to be removed because it is a “personal” preference of each individual, that should be displayed on their “personal” vehicles, entire and while off duty!

personally I would not feel comfortable at all being (especially alone ) with an officer proudly peacocking his personal agenda . they need to figure out a way to be approachable and inclusive . this isn’t it

The US flag should be enough of a logo for government property. We don't need police vehicles to display a modified American flag. Protect and serve please. That's all we pay you for. Your opinion and views are for off duty. Thanks.

The Thin Blue Line decal is political speech. Springfield citizens need to know that our officers serve the community despite citizens' political viewpoints. The decal sends the wrong message that citizens must agree with that political argument to be served and protected by our PD.
