SM County Petition for full-time school in the fall

I beg you to please let our children get back to school full time in the fall. I am an RN at San Mateo Medical Center and my husband works for SFMTA. We have rotated shifts of working and staying home with our children, but our almost 5 year old has suffered greatly. He has tantrums everyday when we sit him down to do school work. My husband and I have used all of our paid time off and we have been taking leave with without pay while still trying to pay our mortgage. Our oldest son is expected to start Kindergarten this fall and he desperately needs to be in a school environment to learn. We cannot continue to stay home with our children, miss work and afford our home. Please consider the impact this will have on so many working parents. Thank you, Amber and Steven Murphy

It is time to prioritize the health and well-being of our CHILDREN as well as the YOUNG FAMILIES who have sacrificed greatly over the last several months. Distance learning is not only unsustainable, but also damaging to the health and well-being of children.

Please as a single parent with 4 school aged children they felt discouraged and I felt as a failure because I had to work fulltime. Put plexi on desks..so kids dont need to wear masks

From the Belmont-Redwood Shores district & 2 kids @ Nesbit, I fully support this petition & would like to see the same option available in my district.

My 2 kids are better off in school full time learning and interacting with their piers.

Enough is enough! We cannot stand by and let our kids be subjected to further disruption. Thank you for this and I hope it works. We will help any way we can.

Why can colleges go back to school early and we are keeping grade school and high school kids home? The county needs to lift regulations so kids can get back to the class room, period!

I want my kids to resume full Time school. I am not willing to have them participate in distance learning. This is wrong on so many levels

Please let our children learn they way they are supposed to. Restrictions with budget cuts and continued stay at home rules will hinder their development. Thank you for reading this

As a pediatrician and mother of 4, I couldn’t agree more with the statements in this letter. Please re-evaluate the fall school plan with children as the main focus, as they should have been from the start when it comes to schools and education.

On top of this, based on the way teachers responded to the guidelines and didn’t teach-we are setup for failure

There is an option for online learning to continue as it is necessary for many families. But a return to full time school is also necessary for the other half, especially as we return to work outside of our home. Please also consider the mental health consequence of not opening schools full time. Our kids are truly suffering. There are measures that can be put in place to mitigate potential risks, temperature checks, hand sanitizers, daily sanitation of bathrooms (currently not happening at least in middle school), etc. Thank you.
