SM County Petition for full-time school in the fall

Pls allow full time in school. No online classes

I suggest forming a focus group of teachers parents and students if old enough

I’m mom of 3kids. Kids need teachers and friends. I can’t provide school level education at home with full time job.

I would like normal full time schooling .

Please consider the effects this has on our children. As a parent working OUTSIDE of the home, who will 'teach' my child? I have a child with ADHD and a young babysitter will not be able to handle teaching a child who struggles in school to begin with. How about the social impact this is having on our children? And the lack of physical engagement for young children with working parents in the home that can't take them on long hikes or ride bikes for hours at a time?

Please consider the mental health of our children and include a full time option for those who would choose to use it.

We have 4 kids and both work full time. We can't sustain alternate schedules for our family. Many students in our school rely on this form of childcare as well as learning. Please consider the needs of all children, not just the wealthy who have nannies or alternate options.

Keeping children home and distanced will stunt their social and emotional growth in irreparable ways. The decision to send their child to school or not should be a parent one. Masks and 6 feet apart will prevent their development and should not be required.

Schools need to be in session full time. The impacts of school closures disproportionately affect working families many of whom have no options for childcare and are being forced to take unpaid leaves or worse, quit their jobs to care for their children. San Mateo county “leaders” presenting these ridiculous school opening options are furthering the economic nightmare we are seeing right now. Schools have opened around the world without seeing a rise in infection rates. To “wait until a vaccine becomes available” is absolutely ridiculous! My 1st grader will be a high-schooler by the time an effective vaccine is available. It is imperative to the social and emotional well being of our children to be amongst their peers without forcing them to live in a climate of fear and anxiety. Distance learning thus far has been an absolute joke. These plans are setting up a generation of children for academic failure and mental health problems. There is no logical reason we can’t follow the lead of countries who are safely and successfully opening schools full time.

I fully support this letter. While I can appreciate the desire to move cautiously in light of the novel nature of COVID-19, we cannot let our children slip in school 1+ years. Doing so will cause tremendous hardship across our population, in particular for vulnerable children. Some things I’ve observed: 1/ Distance learning is ineffective, 2/ socialization is one of the most important aspects of school, and 3/ masks create an environment of anxiety and fear.

Kids need normalcy, social interaction and not to be set back so far in their learning.

As a parent of twins kindergartens, I am concerned about them not being able to socialize and be in shelter in place the past few months has not helped.

FT School is needed. I have a Freshman and Sophomore who need to learn in class.
