The point of late start for the 2015-2016 school year should've been for the parents to get their kids to the bus stop around the same time as drop off last year. Now that we'll be taking the kids to school ourselves next year, there's no reason the time change should stay with the later start. Parents still need to get to work on time, after dropping off their children, just like they did before the time change. If there's an actual reason for the late start for the 2016-2017 school year, then talk to the parents BEFORE the end of this school year, not a month before the next school year starts. We should have a say in this as well. The communication from the school to the parents needs to be improved greatly. Involve the parents; we'll be more than happy to provide our input!

I do not recall anything about a time change during the discussions prior to the vote to rezone several Deerfield families into Sunset Hill Elementary. I feel like this was brought up after the decision was final with no public input. We are happy to join the school, but walking almost two miles and crossing 6th Street is not an option for our Kindergartener, two first graders and second grader next year. We will be driving our children, including our 7th Grader to West everyday (plus a trip to Free State). The time difference between the start of the two schools absolutely makes no sense, allowing for 90 minutes of unproductive time everyday for many families.

We need the hours put back. For working parents and for when the middle schoolers get out who have younger siblings that they have to walk home. What are they going to for almost an hour beside get in trouble.

Keeping Sunset at early start would be better for our family, so there isn't any back forth for drop off and pick up.

Logistically, the disjunction in start times for parents with elementary and middle school students has been less than ideal. Scientifically, the respective start times are reversed for optimum student benefit. A better option overall is for both schools to begin at 8:45, allowing older students to get adequate sleep and students at separate schools to be dropped off/walk simultaneously.

Been a Sunset family for a long time, it's not broken- don't attempt to "fix". A late start is a terrible financial and coordinative hardship to many families without question.

Wouldn't it be ironic that as a child care provider I would need to pay for before and after school care for my child as the proposed late start and release times would interfere with my businesses drop off, breakfast and snack schedules? Please go back to an 8-3 school day.

2 parents...both commuters...the late drop off has been hard to work around especially since buses (which I know won't be an issue next year) arrive 10 min before my husband has to be in KC and 80 min after I've started work in Topeka. We considered that SHE was an early start when buying our home and it's important to us to keep it that way.

My kids are out of Sunset Hill now, but I can't imagine trying to juggle two start times for kids in two schools. Early release Wednesdays are wacky enough.

for "eff" sake, YES, please go back to original start time. Sunset Hills and surrounding has a large constituency of dual-working parents. Keep things aligned with West, aligned with after school programs and caregivers.
