As I stated in a post on Saturday, James F Byrnes Rebels was named that because of Mr. Byrnes nickname "the little rebel". This has nothing to do with any disrespect or racism toward any person or race. The person that is request this name change has pictures on his Facebook page that show friends or family he seems to be proud of with the band uniforms ,etc. on , so why all of a sudden does the name "rebel" offend him? Charleston made South Carolina so proud recently in the wake of a tragedy. It's would be a shame that we can't be an example of the same coming together instead of becoming a spectacle in light of this ludicrous request. Terry Moore you need to stop trying to create dissension in the Upstate and show that we are above that type of behavior shown in places like Baltimore.

The fact that this is even up for discussion shows that the system is being ran by incompetent people just looking for a reason to get more media headlines.

I agree with the content of this petition. I'm 73 years old and a 1960 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School. Our three children, and five of our grandchildren are graduates. Hopefully we will see great grands graduate from there too. We have always been proud of our "Rebels". Let us remain as such.
