James F Byrnes High School has been using the REBELS as there athletic teams name since the 1950s. Our teams name has nothing to do with hate or racism. We have gone to school with our black and white friends since the late 1960s. We have won many state championships as the REBELS and all of our students and alumni want it to stay that way. All of our students love each other and have no problem getting along. Let this drop here and now. Tell the KKK and the NAACP, we don't need them here.

That flag had nothing to do with what happened in Charleston. There is no reason to go around renaming places or things. Rebels can be from any walk of life in any time period on any part of this planet. History is history and rebels are rebels. Leave it as it is because no matter how many things you change or try to change now it will not change what has been done.

I didn't go to Byrne's but I am proud to say that Byrne's is a great football team and they have represented South Carolina many times in out of state games. There are more black people that have went to that school and are still enrolled at that school that would defend it with honor and tell you that the school name has nothing to do with racism. Everyone potrays every white person as a racist. Well doesn't that make them racist? For the people who are racist changing the name or removing the flag isn't gonna change their hearts they will still be racist end of story.

I play football for the byrnes c-team my brother tyler plays varsity football we can't let these people push us around we have to stand up for our school. The d5 area is proud of what the school has accomplished over the years. My brother and I have busted our tail to be named as a Byrnes Rebel I won't let this name be changed if my life depends on it.

All of this crap needs to stop! It doesnt matter what is removed or from where the naacp will ALWAYS BE OFFENDED BY SOMETHING! I am offended that their president, or whatever he is called, was arrested for cocain! So, I think that ALL naacp chapters should be disbanded!

My husband and children went there and I have never seen the name or the school have any racist meaning. We are all Byrnes Rebels. The name should NOT change because some group thinks one word is offensive. This is getting ridiculous.

Class of '88!!! Keep our Mighty Rebels as they are, nationally recognized football team fighting to win and our Rebel Regiment marching to win. Keep our well-known pride and achievement moving forward!!! God bless all our Rebels, past, present and future!!

I moved to district five when I was fourteen. I was really nervous about starting a new school where I knew NOONE. Everyone made me feel like I was at home!! I made friends quickly some of which I'm still friends with today!! Through high school I had white, African American, Asian,Korean etc friends. I have never been racist nor will I ever be!! I have always considered my fellow students to be part of my family!! We stuck by each other, we leaned on each other and we continue to do so today. As I see it ONCE A REBEL ALWAYS A REBEL!! Let's stand together as a family my BYRNES REBEL BROTHERS AND SISTERS and sign this petition in honor of our part, present and future REBEL brothers and sisters!! District five schools are the best and I'm proud to have attended high school here and my kids started school in district five!!
