Leave the name ad the mascot alone. It is just a mascot and didn't do anything. Ban the NAACP. They are a very rACIST GROUP.

Why take away a name that has been known for State Championships and nothing else that is negative. Let our rebel pride be known!

This is completely ridiculous if the naacp wants us to change then they need to take a look at Wade Hampton high also Wade Hampton was a real live man that was a general in the confederate army (thus the highway schools mascot) and also owned slaves he then later on became a part of South Carolina government also the Confederate States of America never adopped a flag the one that you see everywhere is actually the battle flag of northern Virginia each state had their own battle flag and some states had many different versions of their battle flag and everyone wants to forget that the KKK marched on DC with the United States flag

I did not graduate from Byrnes, but it has become my second "home" away from home. All 3 of our children graduated from Byrnes and were members/ drum majors for the award winning Rebel Regiment! My husband taught at Byrnes for 7 years before moving to DR Hill as principal and then to the DO. I taught in the district for 36 years! We are true Rebel supporters!
