Reinstate the changes made to the graduation program to allow Regina Public Schools Students to have a full graduation banquet

I went to my brother's banquet when he graduated, it made me excited for my senior year. I hope this tradition is continued in some way.

I work for a meat company that does a lot of fundraisers for various groups. In the last 6 months I have had a total profit from fundraisers of 15,000 most of which was from a highschool hockey team with 38 kids. I believe that this would be a great way to fundraise enough money to pay for a grad banquet. Feel free to Conact me for any information you need to help get this privilege back for students! Both of our children have long graduated from high school. I strongly believe in the high school graduation experience for every grade 12 student and their parents. The banquet is an opportunity for parent to publicly display just how proud they are of their children's accomplishment. We also have fond, lasting memories of the event - like helping six young men tie their ties as the prepared for the evening, and chasing a young woman around with the camera to ensure she got pictures with fellow students and their parents, and teachers. I still have fond memories of my grad......and that was many years ago, before they were this well organized!

Let the youth have their grad celebration! This was the highlight of my high school years and is something to look forward to.

In my opinion cost should not be an issue, there are ways to fund raise, even sponsorship to get extra money to help with the costs. Liability - how can the Catholic school still continue with it then? What about their liability? The prom idea for just students, when do the parents get to participate in their child's graduation - for the 30 seconds when their child walks across the stage to get their diploma and that is it. Not sure what the RP School Board was thinking. If they were looking to make changes, they needed to have ALL the players involved, the parents, students and teachers. I believe it should be reinstated for the students. They have a right to celebrate their accomplishments with their friends, parents and teachers and that is the time to do it.

I am not in agreement with abolishing the graduation banquet for the Grade 12's. Parent and students were not even consulted of the change. This all came with no warning. Our family is feeling rather blind sided, to say the least! There are ways to fundraise and assist families that are not able to afford this event, and at the very least give us a chance to brainstorm and accommodate the families in need!

There are many ways to cut the costs down for banquets and such without taking them away. Why not have a more "casual dress" event where girls just wear a skirt or simple dress and boys dress pants and tie, no tux. I daresay the cost of outfitting the students is more than the tickets to attend. Why not let the students vote that are in that year of graduating what type of a grad function they want, formal or informal? Also, another idea is for people who can't "afford" tickets should be able to contact the school and some sort of fundraising could be done for those students without their names being conveyed, sort of anonymous donations and fundraising.

Prom is the highlight of grade 12. The kids shouldn't be denied the right to celebrate they're achievements

Completely agree with the fact that we should continue to be a grad banquet, that's every high school students dream!

Grad is the one thing that high school students are the most excited about. Girls getting to buy beautiful dresses, boys buying/renting suits, and then getting together to celebrate your achievements together. Sometimes people go to school with each other right from Kindergarten. Bring back the Graduation. The students deserve it!!!

I think this is a mile stone for these young adults. Let them have there night with a banquet.

Absolutely disgusted by this decision. Shame on you regina public schools. The kids work hard to graduate and they deserve a ceremony!!!!!

Keep it ornigal. It's been a history for you don't take it away.

Grad banquet and dance is such a nice evening. Grads have family come from near and far and should be able to spend a beautiful evening with their guests!

For grads being reinstated

There is so many options for fundraising and so many options for donations of services hair, make up ,dresses, suits people just have to use them . Good Luck ...

I have a daughter that is in grade ten, and I was appalled to hear that they are taking out the banquet & dance for grade 12 graduation. This is a night for the graduates and their classmates to celebrate the accomplishments that they have achieved. For a lot of students this is a farewell to a lot of friends that they will not get to see or associate with, in their adult lives. This is also a chance for parents and grandparents to share with their children/grandchildren. I understand that there are concerns regarding expenses. If you put it to a vote, I would venture to guess that not only would every student in high school, but every parent would be willing to fundraise...for the students that can't afford the expenses. You could have fundraising and then the students that truly are unable to cover the costs could apply for assistance from this fund anonymously. You could approach the specialty dress shops and tux shops to see if they would be willing to discount the formal wear for these students, if we in turn sent 10 students, would they be willing to provide a gown, or a tux, the banquet halls would be more than willing to discount their meals by a dollar a plate too; if the alternative is they don't have that source of revenue coming in each year....ask them. The possibilities are endless...all you need is a little imagination...and a little bit of drive.

There is more they aren't saying. My kid came home talking about Ramadan. The dates and the fact that some families can't eat until a certain time. That shouldn't affect our kids.

Grad is awesome! One of the most memoriable occasions about senior year! Should not be cancelled and if it is, most deffentaly have student input.
