Let the youngens have a banquet

This event was a great memory for me, and I think it's unfair that students are being deprived of having that experience.

Let's try to address the concerns rather than cancel altogether. It has been such a cultural tradition for all preceding graduating classes.

Please don't take away grad!!

Allow the parent/ student committees to run grad banquets like they used to 20 years ago. The teachers can be involved if they want, but to take it away is simply ridiculous.

It is really important for people to celebrate the completion of major milestones in their lives. It is important for the educational system to at least try to teach young people how to celebrate their accomplishments in a thoughtful and responsible manner. The public school board's withdrawal of the graduation banquet is an abrogation of its responsibilities in teaching our next generation. Having a meal (or feast) is a fundamental way that people celebrate, and it is a lot better than most of the other methods of celebration that are currently in vogue.

These banquets are a huge deal to grads, as graduation is a very big milestone. It is at this point in their life where they transition to adults and figure out where they want to go next. Don't take that very important opportunity for the grads to celebrate this milestone with family and teachers. Find a solution don't just remove what you believe to be a problem.

I think that it is very unfair to do away with an important celebration without even a discussion with all parties involved. As the parent of a grade 12 student affected by this decision, I would have at least liked to have been asked for input or an opinion on the subject.

Grad is a right of passage. I think every student should the right to experience it.

It is really unfair to take this away from grade 12 graduates without any discussions in order for students to come up with solutions. I agree that it can become quite costly however there are ways to manage this with fund raising instead of just bullying your decisions without any discussions with students. This could be a school by school thing and each grad class can vote and decide if they want to fund raise and have a banquet. I thought we lived in Canada, didn't realize Hitler was still alive!!!

The grad banquet was a highlight of my high school career. I hope students can find a solution to the issue of it being too expensive for some to attend. Good luck.

I thought I would never see the day when graduates would be robbed of a celibration they've waited 12 years for !! Totaly rediculous and absolutely uncalled for !!! Give them what they have earned and been waiting for !!!

I feel you need listen to these students prior to making changes that affect them directly. They are almost old enough to vote and yet they were not treated as adults and consulted about this decision. How do we expect them to make wise choices as adults if they are not given a chance to help with these types of choices, they are not in kindergarten and they may have some amazing ideas. Remember they are our future!! Empower them to come up with the ideas that move things forward!!!

I would have been so pissed if we didn't get to have our banquet. These kids deserve to have one too! My younger sisters and I all got one, I have a brother in grade 11 and he has attend all of ours, I think he would feel ripped off if he didn't get one.

This is a right of passage. Students today and going forward need to share in this joyous moment with family, friends & class mates. The decision by the Principals with the Regina School Board backing it is narrow minded and selfish. This decision needs to be re-evaluated and the grad banquets need to be re-established. Oct 20th @ 7:00 pm is the next RPSB meeting!

A right of passage for each student to have a memorable graduation. Please don't let our students down.

What's the point of working and challenging yourself to graduate high school if there is no banquet ???

I commend these students for demonstrating positive leadership by creating a petition. Those are the skills we as educators hope they acquire as they move up through the grades in our school system. This is democracy!

Not right to take something away that most students have looked forward to for 13+ years. Especially without their voice. Think back to your own graduation. Was it not something you remember & treasure? Revisit this decision!

We need the celebration of graduate please do not cancel the graduate dance!!!!!!
