oh---this is sad.The grad banquet has always been an exciting part of graduation. I'm sure the students are upset--rightfully so.

I do not think it is fair to cancel the Gr 12 grad banquets. If the cost is the problem, I bet if asked, the Gr. 12 students would be more than willing to fund raise for the whole school year in order for them to have their banquet. I am sure many people would contribute because of the great cause the fund raising is going towards. Please don't take away this very special banquet from these people who will remember that day for the rest of their lives because I believe if there is no Gr. 12 Grad Banquet for these young people anymore, I think you will see a lot of people not finishing high school. These young adults are just going to think what's the use? I'm not going to get to celebrate, so why finish. Instead, they will just quit school & than go & write their GED.

Every grad should have this opportunity as they worked hard for it and for some it's incentive to actually graduate and be apart of something they will remember for the rest of their lives .

Our children have earned the right to celebrate their achievements & goals of graduation with a banquet. Parents & students should have been consulted on this. Our graduates deserve the right to make decisions on their graduation. At least banquets & after celebrations were chaperoned. You are opening this up to concerns of celebrations being held in a unsafe environment. These graduates are our future. We need celebrate their achievements.

Really?? The parent committee does 95 percent of this so what does it matter to the board? If it's about fairness for all students there can be fundraising opportunities or anonymous donations, etc. This is not for the school board to decide.

Every graduate deserves a night for their accomplishments. How fair is it that someone else can decide this fate without more input from the ones it's affecting??? I'm all for this petition!!

Everyone deserves to have a banquet. It is the last time you can be together with you classmates as a group, and it should be treated as something small. I am very glad I got to have one myself.

Cancelling the grad banquet is ridiculous. Graduation is what most high school students look forward to, and to take it away is not fair. It is selfish to take the moment away. Let it be a day celebrated, and figure out a way to raise money for the banquet. Don't ruin the seniors graduating year. Let the girls shine in their beautiful dresses.

I realize Graduation is expensive, but the banquet is an important tradition I feel ought to be continued. I think parents and students should be heard on this.

I support bringing back the grad banquet. Let's find solutions instead of punishing the grads.

The grad banquet has to stay. Instead of cancelling it why don't you teach the students about money do they can afford grad tickets. What's next cancelling driver Ed because not everyone can afford a car. Smarten up public school board.

Replacing the graduation banquet where students celebrate with both friends and family with an event where only students are allowed to attend seems to be the opposite of the stated goals of the school board to make schools more community oriented places. Celebrating graduation with both family and friends is a time honoured tradition that should not be so casually discarded.
The formal cap & gown ceremony is important but is not what the majority of students look forward to about graduation.
