I received a banquet and celebration with my graduation in 2011, and I think my brother, and all other students, deserve one as well, as it is a major milestone and should be celebrated properly.

My son is graduating this year! And we have been waiting for this milestone for his entire life!!! We want the option to choose for ourselves & our son!!!

When I graduated high school in 2011, shopping for a grad dress and having that night to celebrate graduation with my friends and family was so special. I would be so sad if I was still a highschool student and that oppertunity was taken away!

This is a tradition. Kids work so hard on school and Grad is in some ways a reward. It's also a way for students to say Fairwell to one another, in some cases these students have been going to school together since kindergarten! I'm saddened and hope minds are changed and students get the right to celebrate. Not only is it a celebration for the students but for parents too, we work so hard to keep our kids focused on making it to the end. Maybe we should be going back to the old days and hosting the grad party in the gym and having the students do fundraising and making committee's for decorations etc.

i am a student at Martin Collegiate in regina and when we were all gathered in the auditorium and told we weren't getting something we've looked forward to for 13 years, i cried. i know walking across the stage and getting our diplomas is the important part but so is celebrating our accomplishment with our friends and family and getting to dress up and feel good for one night. i am heartbroken by the decision made, i hope we can get our banquet back!

Graduation day and the celebration is what motivates some kids to stay in school. Fundraising can be done to make it less expensive for all. Second hand gowns and suits can be purchased cheap or even free if you look in the right place.

My daughter just graduated class of 2015 and I couldn't imagine if this had happened to her !!!

This is silly... This is a huge time for Grads and if some people can't afford it then fine... Why doesn't the schools just modify it and have it in the gym at the school instead of spending thousands of dollars to rent out a renue.

I'm graduated, and this actually bothers me so much. Kids go through 13 years of school and torture, and dont even get to celebrate the big success they've overcome and dress up. Every grade 12 deserves a graduation where they get to dress up all fancy in their dresses and suits for one day.

I myself am a high school student iam in grade 11 and will be graduating next year. I think this is extremely unfair to the parents, teachers and especially the students. Every teenager once they are seniors and are getting excited for grad and starting to think about adult life want to be able to have the privilege to dress up all nice for one night dance with family and friends and have the father daughter dance. This is what every highschool student looks forward to. You can't take away that from the students it's completely unfair.

Why can't we celebrate actual achievements. If some people can't afford it (or feel that way) that's unfortunate. You don't need to spend alot to get a nice dress or tux and at my school we were able to have 2 free guests. The school can fundraise for the grad. We did.

It's not just 'a banquet'. As a student, I want my grade 12 year to be the most memorable . I want to be able to look back at pictures when I'm older, of what grad dress I wore, and who I went with. It's a once in a lifetime experience that shouldn't be taken away from us.

Of all the things my daughter is looking forward to its this,now it's being taken away from her and she doesn't understand why they feel the need to do this. Things can be worked out. Let them have their time to shine!! ☆☆☆

Just tone it down instead of having it at an expensive hotel but keep it for the kids!

If the school board is to remove the banquet, then it is at the very least fair to inform the public as to why. Plus, the banquet is a huge part for the graduating student's morale.
