Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Fund Advisory Committee

c/o Mark Villinger, Principal Planner

Ocean County Department of Planning

129 Hooper Ave.

PO Box 2191 Toms River, NJ 08754-2191

Dear Mr. Villinger,

I fully support the purchase of the Rosemma Tract by the Ocean County Natural Land Trust Fund Program.

Wetlands of this nature provide innumerable opportunities for wildlife habitat, flood mitigation, and many other valuable natural services. The calculable and incalculable value of this land is apparent as is the need for its preservation.

Thank You,

Concerned Citizen

Reaching this level of visibility feels heavy because it reminds me of how much is actually at stake for the Rosemma Tract. I am exhausted by the pushback we keep hitting but seeing this level of momentum keeps me focused on the goal.

FEMA encourages the use of wetlands in conjunction with flood control. .A one acre wetland can store about three acre feet of water about one million gallons.

The sea turtle nesting project last summer, the blue and white herons which frequent the tract, the red-winged black birds, the aquatic life in Clam Cove-all will be negatively affected by any building there.

I grew up around this marsh and have loved it my whole life. It helped save our house during hurricane Sandy when so man were lost, and it would be terrible for people to capitalize off the destruction of such a beautiful piece of land

last decent parcel of wetlands for nesting of our Holgate terrapin turtles. Watched several lay their eggs there last summer and then go back to the bay. Each nest had 10-15 eggs and were buried deep to avoid any predators. So much development in Holgate and they roam our streets lokong for soft sand to dig a nest but they are frustrated and often bruise and tear their legs in trying to do so. My neighbors and I have been trained in the terrapin turtle rescue project. We are alerted and take them to this save tract to ensure the survival of this invaluable species.

For the well-being and protection of the habitat and denizens and the entire Holgate community, it is essential that this tract be purchased and preserved in perpetuity by the Ocean County Natural Land Trust Fund Program.
