Having a hospital in Peñitas, Texas, with a mental rehabilitation center would have many benefits. It will not only benefit the residents of the Peñitas area, but also the residents of the west Mission, Palmview, Palmhurst, Alton, La Joya and Sullivan areas. Last year, a young student from our Palmview High School family was tragically injured in a car-pedestrian accident. It took over thirty minutes for the ambulance to arrive on the scene of the incident. Who is to say that if she received medical attention sooner, she wouldn’t be with us today. Sadly, she did not survive the accident, and it is time to take a stand before we are forced to say goodbye to more loved ones in our community. In addition, having a mental rehabilitation center within the hospital branch would greatly serve the teens and adults who have mental illnesses. In the month of October, we lost one of our former classmates to the battle with mental illness. On average, 32.4% Americans suffer from a diagnosed mental illness or disorder, and there are only two rehab centers in the Rio Grande Valley. The Behavioral Health Center at the Renaissance Hospital only has 88 beds available. In additional, the South Texas Behavioral Health Center only has 134 beds available.We are tired of losing our classmates, family members, and friends to the lack of resources. Please take a moment to text this link to three friends who live in the Peñitas area to get them on board. We need to keep pressure on local officials so they stop ignoring these gaps in our healthcare system.

A hospital would br a great benifit fir the comunity and for employmwnt growth....
Being in the mental health field I believe that there is an immense need for more availability to consumers with mental health illnesses! There are many who aren't able to receive services due to not having hospital beds in the only two behavioral hospitals in McAllen besides the state behavioral hospital in Harlingen! It's time to make a difference for the numerous people who don't receive services!
I think that a hospital in this area would be of great help to the people of the community of Penitas and surounding area. I can only see it being beneficial.
I am so proud of the youth of this community who can articulate social injustice and be proactive in activating for change. You have my support and backing.
This is an excellent argument in support of something that is greatly needed in our community. Although the Rio Grande Valley maintains its status as a 'small town' it really isn't particularly with the recent influx of immigrants from Mexico, Central and South America. We need to help our communities gain better access to health care. I support this effort 100%!

My son had to wait so long for help after his wreck. Its scary living so far from the ER. We really need this closer to home.
