Petition to Ohio Bishops to Restore Access to the Sacraments

Some Governors are so intent on keeping their states locked down tight, and it has nothing to do with keeping their citizens safe from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s for political reasons. It's because they're terrified that a rebounding economy will Increase President Trump’s chances for a reelection success on November 3 and so they choose to punish their citizens by not opening their states. Think before you Vote: President Trump’s continued economic recovery as evidence of his administration's success or Joe Biden a Career politician, ALL Talk No Action, Who has Nothing to Show for 47 years in Washington, D.C., it’s a “no brainer”.

Mass and sacraments need to be available. This is your job! Save souls! Why did you give in to government suppression?

Please let us receive Jesus

Please open our church doors once again! We miss our Sunday Mass and all the sacraments. Let us have OUR JESUS again in the presence of our holy church! Gail and Jerry

For Catholics, Mass and the Sacraments are essential, especially the Eucharist, for our spiritual health. If Walmart is permitted to be open, how much more should our Churches be open. With a little creativity, safety can be assured while tending to the real spiritual needs of the flock. Thank you. Dr. Barbara Benander

With greater understanding of the nature of the COVID-19 virus and the fact that the dire predictions about virulence and associated deaths have not come to pass, it is time for the Church to stop participating in this mania that has overtaken the world. The Sacraments are essential for the faithful, and have been deemed so even by Ohio’s secular government. It is uncharitable for Church leaders to continue to feed the hysteria and fear by keeping churches closed and denying the faithful the comfort and grace of the Sacraments. Please re-open the churches and make all of the Sacraments available. Those at highest risk for serious consequences from the COVID virus could continue to be excused from their obligation to attend Mass. This could also include priests who are at greater risk. For the great majority of the faithful in Ohio, there is no need to take special measures beyond those which reasonable people take in any flu season. The faithful are capable of keeping themselves and their loved ones protected and of making appropriate health decisions for themselves. However, only the Church can provide the Sacraments. Denying them during this time of trial is not the way of the Good Shepherd.

Please don't keep Jesus from us any longer!

I agree totally with the sentiments expressed in this petition. Furthermore, I am extremely disappointed in most of our Bishops and priests who seem to have dismissed the great need of the faithful to receive the sacraments. It makes one wonder, in particular regarding our need to receive Holy Communion, if they truly believe that the Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life" as was stated in Lumem Gentium and cited in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I fear that many souls have been lost due to the inaction of our Bishops.

Shepherd is called to lead the flock! Be bold, be courageous, be faithful to Christ, and lead your flock!

Online attendance is better than nothing, but not the same as being able to receiving the Eucharist

These and other creative ways to give the faithful the Sacraments (including Communion) can be implemented safely.

Please consider spiritual health! We are created body AND soul. Closing the sacraments is giving the message that bodily health is more important than the health of our soul.

Religious services have always been exempt from Ohio's lockdown orders, as long as proper protocols are followed. The complete shutdown of all sacraments—even Adoration chapels—shows contempt for the faithful. For decades our Church—through its leaders—have been on a course of self destruction. Now, the world has witnessed just how weak and irrelevant it is. Don't just open the Church... fix it!

Please open the churches and return to us the Mass and confession. Leave the dispensation in place in order to protect elderly and vulnerable.
