Stop the Renaming of NSU College of Optometry

Terrible decision. How can anyone from the administration hold their head up after this? I know they will be losing A LOT of alumni backing after this!

Watching now for the exodus of your best professors and clinical instructors as well as your brightest students who want to be more than retail refractionists. Pitiful to behold.

The damage to our profession and reputation as alumni and graduates of the university will last far longer than the $5 million dollars...

NOVA Southeastern is much more commendable name.

As a private practice owner who’s worked at an America’s Best corporate location in the past. I feel it is a direct assault on the credibility of my profession to have a school which is held to a much higher level of medical care to be named after a corporation where our profession is cheapened for quick material sells money.

Please keep the prestige of NSU College of Optometry intact, it's the beloved institution where I both earned a prestigious Doctorate degree and completed my wonderful Residency in Ocular Disease, both of which I am immensely proud of.

This is low class desperation. It casts a pall on our profession. (Yes. Optometry is a profession; It is not just business to most of used)Just close if you need 5 mill that badly!

This is an absolute disgrace. Put the name on a lecture hall or something- the corporate shill-ery is appalling. No educational institution should be selling themselves out this easily. I'm sure some wealthy donors would gladly put their own name on the school and help keep the school's integrity. I used to have respect for Nova, but that is completely gone if the name changes. Might as well name it 'We wanted some $$ so we're gonna degrade our profession forever, haha' School of Optometry.

What an insult to the current students, past students, faculty, staff and the entire profession of optometry. This is shameful.

What an embarrassment to the profession.

Renaming an educational institution, which should be dedicated to study, research, and the advancement of Optometry, after a corporate entity which has historically cheapened and demeaned the nature and value of the profession, is a mistake, the magnitude of which will be felt for years to come. As a doctor in private practice, I personally would shy away from hiring a doctor with a degree sponsored by such an enterprise.

I'm saddened that NOVA would allow its reputation to become tarnished by partnering with a profit centered corporation that cares nothing for the profession of optometry.

As a Doctor of Optometry, NSU Class of 1997, I am very disappointed in the new naming of the Optometry School and hope this will be reconsidered. It is bad for the school and for all past and future OD's.

Not a good look. I’d rather they name the school after a well respected philanthropist if need be. Let’s face it though, corporate optometry is no longer well defined especially with the surge of colleagues selling their practices to private equity/venture capital groups. Wake up people! Another news flash; after 24 years 90% of my patients on the west coast of Florida still have never heard of NSU. Change it’s name again and that % will increase.

Sorry but I find this to be demeaning to the school and optometry and of no specific benefit other than the donation associated. A school with the reputation of NSU needs to maintain a leading presence in the betterment of optometry regardless of the financial benefit.

I’ve invested a lot of money to attend this school and I do not want to have that all go to waste because our reputation is tainted. I do not want to have to fight for my reputation after graduation in order to find a job.

Class of 2015. I can’t believe this is even being considered.

This is a major step backwards for this college and optometry. I do not support this name change.

I just cannot even imagine a respected school (my alma mater) would ever consider this. I feel terrible for the current students, professors, and alumni.
