I had a new furnance installed last October. The inspector looked at it for 2 minutes and left! A total ripoff. This is just a ploy for more tax money.

These measures do nothing for the community and only serve the needs of the local government not its residents. This ordinance will only lower housing prices while increasing closing costs.

As a senior citizen & long time resident of EP, I am very concerned that I would not be able to sell my house. I cannot afford to fix everything they may think needs fixing. When I retire in June I will be living on a fixed income that is well below what I currently make at my job. I am single but my son lives with me. He does not have a job & I support him at this time. At some point I will probably need to sell my home because it will become more than I can handle. I would like to know that I can sell my house anytime I want without interference from the city. They have no right to tell me what to do with my house. I have paid taxes here for 38 years and have no intention of paying a city inspector when and if I decide to sell.

Yet another layer of real estate legalese that serves no one, will only hamper real estate sales and be an additonal tax on the residents of Eden Prairie.

St. Louis park had a similar one. When we sold our house they required for us to put the discharge pipe 2" above the drain in the floor. After they approved the changes and when our house was about to close, the water softerner cycled and over shot over the drain. It flooded our basement. It cost us $900 to get the floor cleaned/dry and almost cost us our sale then and in the future (because we would have to disclose water in the basement). The city required us to do this, but did not take responsibility for it. That change was not for our safety, nor required - it was their attempt to make money off of us one last time. I strongly oppose this law.

In EP we have a long string of lies, misrepresentations and broken promises by the last few city council members. We have a broken promise of no maintenance (snowplowing) by homeowners on bike trails, BS sewer inspections, lack of voter input on an absurd swimming pool/civic center remodelling project, and now this. Just another slap in the face of EP taxpayers and homeowners by out of control council members that care not to truly represent the resident of EP, but only feed their egos and build their own exclusive private little kingdom. It's time for these folks to real real and develop some integrity. EP voters need to vote all of those council members out who vote for this and voted for the pool fiasco.

Who at the City of EP determines the rules for compliance? What stops the City of EP, after you have paid their initial $185 fee, finding and writing you up on not just minor fixit issues but major ones as well? Here are few “extras” to consider: Need a new roof? $10,000 to $20,000 for replacement. Cracked sidewalk? $1,000 to $5,000 repair. House exterior needs repainting? $3,000 to 5,000. Older furnace and A/C that don’t meet new Federal Energy guidelines? $5,000 to $10,000 replacement cost. As you can see, the list can and will keep growing! The city inspector will then smile and say you will need a licensed contractor for all of the repairs. I smell city permitting fees! $$$. Nice racket. What if you decide to pull your house off the market? Do you think they will just go away because you now believe you don’t have fix anything? Think again. The next logical step will be additional fines for not doing the repairs and who knows, why not drop a few building code violations on the homeowner for good measure and if you can’t pay, get ready… here comes the property tax liens on your dwelling. Is the city is looking for extra revenue or believes this program helps keep our home prices higher? Government once again is looking out for us. This proposed program, if it goes into effect, will result in not just hundreds of thousand of dollars in new revenue for inspection fees but millions in permitting fees as well. I now believe we have a city with a spending problem. Hmmm…now it makes me wonder what city services need to be cut.

Implementing this redundant and unnecessary ordinance has no legitimate justification. We have disclosure laws in place and virtually every home is sold with an inspection contingency. Additional paperwork and fees is not in the best interest of Eden Prairie home owners and tax payers. The mayor and city council should reject this ordinance without further consideration. They should remember taxpayers are also voters.

This redundancy is totally unnecessary. The city has no business meddling in private matters between buyer and seller of residential or commercial property.

What is the problem being solved by the new POS inspection? Current disclosure requirements and current inspections would cover more potentilal problems/issueds with homes than the proposed POS. This is simply another EP tax, like the EP fees on our gas, electric and cable bills which provide NO additional benefits to residents.

I do not need government "governing" my home. This is a redundent ordinance that will ultimately have the City hiring additional staff on the taxpayér dollar to enforce it. I do not support this ordinance.

Please vote NO to the POS Inspections in Eden Prairie! LT it will erode our property values and will delay the real estate sale process and inhibit a real estate rebound. Just vote NO.
