NCARB ARE Exam Changes

I use the scratch paper, all of it. It helps me recall info. I’m dyslexic as it is and writing it helps me translate it. You take it away to only look at a screen. You’re taking away all possibilities of me just reading the exam

Use of paper during the exam is important and of the process. It allows to take quick notes without unnecessarily delays of opening a digital notepad that might glitch or not function properly.

This is the most idiotic solution I have seen from NCARB. Are you trying to increase the failing rate of these exams? Digital scratch paper? Are you giving us an apple pencil and an Ipad that we can write on then?? Do you not understand the importance of a physical pen and paper to an architect? Do you expect us to write with a mouse?????

Please do not make changes to the system that do not make sense. The testing is pretty glitchy and antiquated as it is. DoNot make changes which makes testing a nightmare.

Please consider this feedback - folks have worked really hard to get this far and the pass rates are already quite low.

Pen and paper is some of the architects most basic tools.

Physical scratch paper, please!

Testing online and at a testing center should not differ - nor should one be expected to forego pencil and paper ... if a proctor watches the tester, the proctor can watch the tester put scratch paper in an envelope, sign the sealed envelope .... NCARB could supply the envelope.

Being able to write (whether with paper or a stylus) is crucial to being able to get through these tests. Taking notes and drawing with a mouse on a digital whiteboard is not an acceptable solution. Please start involving candidates more in your decision making skills to avoid issues like this!

NCARB needs to Focus in making a transparent and efficient exam instead of adding more constraints to the testing process. The nature of architecture and design comes from hand drawing putting ideas together on paper, sketches diagrams and calculations. The paper on the exam allows to keep an order and a clear thinking to solve questions, is the only tool that really works there. It doesn’t crash like NCARB exam software. We don’t take that paper at home, how those notes are compromising the exam? Why not focus instead in real issue like when The exam software during exam crashes, so at least return the money, or if the plans and materials of the cases of studies don’t load properly return the exam money.

Please focus and improve on the ARE exams standards and questions.

SAY NO TO DIGITAL SKETCH PAPER! Keep the scratch paper at the testing center the way it is! Making this into a digital format just makes the testing process even more difficult!

NCARB won’t understand since they don’t need to go through testing. Everything for them is about money and liability is just another excuse to make more money. Please step into candidates shoe! Think like candidates. We need scratch paper PERIOD!

Pencil and paper are so important to my train of thought - and many others. Removing scratch paper would be an unnecessary hindrance to future test takers. Please reconsider.

There is a connection between paper & pencil. Don’t create handicaps for people who have different abilities or process information in different ways.

Scratch paper is fundamental and should not be “digitized.” It already takes forever to use the digits calculator on the computer. This change is unnecessary, even for an online test.

NCARB please understand that physicality of scratch paper is absolutely essential for an exam taker. Reverse this decision.

This counters the skills that the profession requires ie fast iteration, sketching. Use of computer for such purposes is not logical. This further demonstrates ARE's disconnect with the skills required for the profession.

Scratch paper is a big part of working through problems . We sketch things out every day in the real world and NCARB needs to be reminded of that!
