Writing on a screen is not the same as scratch paper. Especially for any open math equations and complicated architectural problem solving

This is outrageously insane. Taking paper away from an architectural exam does not make any sense. NCARB is very disconnected from the profession.

Please reconsider the elimination of scratch paper. We are visual people who problem solve through hand sketching and writing on paper. This poses a huge and unnecessary disadvantage when taking these exams.

This will not only add time to my exam that I don’t have to spare but it will make math equations nearly impossible. I take notes on questions While I’m ready them - especially case studies. How do you expect us to switch between a digital white board window and the questions without wasting time and adding to necessary stress? We are a creative design profession, I really on pen and paper every day to solve the simplest issues. This is ridiculous.

This will only hinder and not help future Architects. Our way of thinking is through drawing with pencil and paper. If you take this away from us you will be making this an unfair situation that in no way represents the reality of being an Architect. If you were in our shoes, would you like to take a test like this? How are we supposed to do any of the math questions without a pen and paper? Please reconsider!!

Scratch paper is given out by the test center rep and taken away by the test center rep and shredded after every exam. I do not see where the liability is. IT IS, however a huge handicap for many people to not have anything to write on. These are architecture exams - making notes is part of the deal. I often need to write out a question by hand in order to fully understand what it means. Especially with the type of language tricks the test questions often contain. Let alone all the case scenario questions. You'd need two monitors to see your notes and the test question at the same time. This is just not practical.

Are you serious? Please explain to me how scratch paper is an exam liability.
As soon as I finish my test I had to handle my scratch paper. The software already has several glitches, go over the exhibits takes Forever just because the software is slow and now, the only tool that help us throughout this process is being removed because is liability? Seriously? We rely on scratch paper, is our process and you are taking it away. You are making this experience an absolute nightmare

NCARB continues to fail the ARE Candidates and their stakeholders. It’s been 4 years Of complaining about defective ARE 5.0 software and NCARB has done absolutely nothing to address these issues.
NCARB has failed at administering ARE 5.0 in a controlled secure testing environment, I have little confidence they will effectively accomplish remote proctoring in an uncontrolled testing environment on a Candidates crappy old laptop.
