It's so frustrating to read about this proposed change. I can't see any purpose to this ban. Most critically, I have yet to see an argument as to how this would improve the exam. Personally, I need scratch paper to complete the tasks in the current exam. And I'm horrified at the idea that scratch paper will become digital in a program already filled with glitches. There are real technical issues with the current exam. There are glitches that lead to long wait periods while the exam clock is ticking. They are inexcusable and NCARB and Prometric have made it clear they do not care. I expect digital scratch paper to add to this problem and once again NCARB and Prometric won't care. When will NCARB focus on a functioning exam?

Terrible idea. Hand to paper will always be a quick efficient way to jot down notes, reminders, calculations etc. Getting rid of this is not in tune w practice or any other related exam or task.

This is not fair. NCARB should provide scratch paper and pencils . This is a necessity for the people taking the exams , not an options specially in the exams you have to make financial and structural calculations , etc.

If scratch paper is removed, then calcs need to also be removed and there then needs to be a digital note pad available. I wish we could actually just bring in study material to pass these tests. No where in the real world are resources unavailable when designing and running and architecture firm or project.

I whole heartedly agree with the premise of this petition to preserve the usage of scratch paper for ARE test takers and for NCARB to address the REAL issues of the glitches, bugs, errors, delays, restarts, etc. that I know I've experienced in every exam I've taken so far (3 in total). Removing scratch paper is yet another way NCARB makes the overall licensure process inaccessible and inequitable. Leave our scratch paper alone!

We will always need physical and real scratch paper. Also- real calculators instead have of computer ones would also be faster.

As designers, we rely on our ability to use a pen and think through ideas and solutions on paper, with pencil in hand. This change is detrimental to exam takers and I urge you to reconsider this change.

If NCARB is eliminating scratch paper they need to eliminate all multi-step calculations. Architects always have scrap paper on hand. To add another digital interface that will cover the questions while working through the problem will add time to exams. Is NCARB extending the exam time? I assume not. This decision has no merit and should be rethought.
