We ask NCARB to focus on solutions to the existing testing glitches, bugs, and errors instead of implementing unnecessary features like a digital scratch paper tool. Physical scratch paper is widely used throughout the professional level exams proctored at Prometric, and there are procedures already in place that ensure proper exam security is met.

Being that one of the pivotal components of being an architect is sketching and using your ability to sketch to work out problems and solutions, I do NOT stand by the change to a digital white board. This is not only another tool that we will have to adjust to and learn on top of all the information and tools we already have to use to navigate the exam, but will cause a delay in our test taking ability. Have you ever tried to mark up a PDF with the pen tool? Not very easy, even for an architect. This is absurd and should not be allowed. We should have the option to use scratch paper as we always have.

architects have pencil & paper in hand to communicate ideas it's what architects do and how we think. We ( test takers ) all know that the software always lags and is known to crash, this has happen to me. Why introduce another computer tool that doesn't reflect the reality of taking a test. We are not provided with 2 monitors, the quality of the actual test software is deplorable. KEEP THE PHYSICAL SCRATCH PAPER!!

Was scratch paper really throwing off their numbers so badly that they had to tie our hands with one more obstacle? We think with our hands throughout our day with scratch paper and pens, they are removing a part of our natural process to succeed in this profession. NCARB this time you FAIL.

I need to sketch and write things down. A digital whiteboard is not a helpful tool, but another added level of stress and frustration to an already frustrating test platform that crashes and takes too long to load.

The elimination of scratch paper will place severe restrictions on my ability to demonstrate my understanding and competence of the examination material. This is not an acceptable tool to implement for the ARE exams

Architects use pencil and paper daily. Research has shown that the mind-hand connection used in writing facilitates mental activity more than prolonged screen time.

it not only break the brain hand connection but also makes some of thoese middle-age people so hard to operatate!!! some one the seniors cant play around the bluebeam very well and you are now asking them to to a digital scratch paper??? some people can't spell or type very well and quicklly because this is not their mother language and now you are asking them to put time one typing their mind on the digital board instead of taking the exam???

It breaks the hand brain connection. Specially when it comes to architecture we are trained to think on paper. No one would draw sketches by using mouse or do math using mouse written screen on the computer. This digital whiteboard will eat up the screen space, consume more time and will definitely create more confusion and distraction for the candidates. Please allow to have scratch papers at least onsite testing places. ARE tests are not memory testing at all. So there is no threat or room for and exam cheating. So any blank paper on the desk won't kill the course.

I'm studying for my first ARE right now and the promise of paper and pencil during the test has been a piece of mind for me, as these are tools I use in daily life to think and solve problems. Please keep them available for the test takers.

This is a TERRIBLE IDEA! Please revise this policy. Literally no one, not one person, thiinks this is a good idea. Physical scratch paper is FUNDAMENTAL to good test taking. It's easy to quickly write down ideas, notes, and calculations. Digital whiteboards will never replace this!
