I can barely eat lunch and communicate with my friends before I hear that horrid bell. I shouldn’t have to scarf down food and rush conversations, thats just not fair. Lunch is the only time of day where I can genuinely do that— eat and communicate with friends, why take that away? It wont improve educational performance thats for sure. I’m human. Not a robot.

The shorter lunch times doesnt let me take a brake from my classes which doesnt help woth the stress from classwork and just makes me even more tired which prevents me from paying attention in my 7th and 8th period classes which i tend to fall asleep in which didnt happen last year. also might be because theyre boring

At Energy Institute High School, the current 30-minute lunch period is too short for many students and staff. Extending it to 45 minutes could significantly benefit students' physical and mental well-being, helping them succeed both in and out of the classroom. First, a longer lunch would give students enough time to eat without feeling rushed. Eating quickly can lead to poor digestion and stress. With more time, students could make healthier food choices and eat at a more comfortable pace, promoting better overall health. Second, lunch is one of the few times during the day when students can relax and connect with friends. The current short break doesn’t give enough time to socialize or decompress. A longer lunch would help build stronger social bonds and reduce stress. Longer breaks are also known to improve focus and mental clarity. Giving students more time to recharge during lunch would help them return to class more refreshed and ready to learn, potentially boosting academic performance. Finally, many students juggle extracurriculars, jobs, and homework. A longer lunch period would give them more flexibility to manage personal needs, study, or simply take a needed break. In conclusion, extending the lunch period to 45 minutes at Energy Institute High School would improve student health, focus, and well-being. This small change could make a big difference in creating a more supportive and productive school environment.
