Seattle Citizens Call on SDOT: Make 56th Avenue SW Safer

We live on 57th

this is long overdue, not sure how many attempts to place speed bumps through 56th Ave Sw to the beach would be helpful, the speeding cars though the street and the dangerous intersection before the hill has gotten worse over the lat 10 years. Long over due interventions are needed.

I have family that lives in the area and I afraid to bring my family there due to all the issues with reckless drivers! This is serious problems and should be dealt with before someone is seriously injures or killed!

As a mother of two young children we need a stop sign and anything else the slow the speeding cars

The speeding on this street is out of control. Walking my grandchildren to the park has become too dangerous and seen too many close calls. What would it take to get the city to do something!!!! Loss of Life!!!!!

We REALLY need something to slow traffic at the intersection. It’s far too dangerous as is. Too many children and animals traverse it on a daily basis.

Why have an iconic destination area like Alki Beach if the city of Seattle isn't willing to protect the tourists and taxpayers who use the park?

SDOT and Seattle City Council, please act quickly and responsibly to do the right thing for our community!

This is not only a safety issue for kids and neighbors, but also for drivers too. The documented accidents and issues due to this dangerous stretch of road speaks for itself. We want safer streets!

While visiting Alki, I parked on this street and my car was hit causing thousands in damage. They took off without leaving any information. A local heard the incident and told me it’s unfortunately a common occurrence due to reckless driving and speeding in the area.

Can we get help pleas? I try to cross at bottom of hill to go to park with kids and its dangerous! drivers don't care about people trying to cross.

People go way too fast and I feel I feel unsafe with my baby

Speed bumps would be great! Those multi hump ones so emergency vehicles and motorcycles can pass but slow those that want to speed would be perfect!

Safe streets benefit everyone. This is a no brainer. Warning: the speed bump will be loud. I’d advise starting with a stop sign and escalating to physical impediments if necessary.

This is a fraught intersection and any kind of calming devices would help make it safer.

And let’s add RESTRICTED ZONE PARKING!

I work on Harbor Avenue SW, and I had a close call recently while standing next to my parked car on the side of the street. It's unfortunately quite common to come across drivers who exceed the speed limit of 60 miles per hour, and it seems like their disregard for safety continues even when they enter the Alki neighborhood. The urgency for the city to address this issue is often overlooked or underestimated. Safety is a major concern in this particular area of town.

Resident near 56th and Admiral. I can attest this is sorely needed!

Great Petition... definitely need SDOT to step up to the plate. With the increased density and traffic, we also need a a speed bump or stop signs on Alki at 55th Ave SW where traffic also has access to Alki from SW Lander Street. Cars often don't see pedestrians crossing from 55th Ave SW to Alki Beach where there are lots of scooters parked. Also lots of racing cars on Alki Ave SW at 55th Ave SW.
