Seattle Citizens Call on SDOT: Make 56th Avenue SW Safer

Because of the speeders and traffic it is very dangreous try to cross 56th SW near my house near Alki. The intersection at 56th and Lander is dangerous because speed coming down from Lander Pl which turns into 56th and poor sight lines at the intersection. Because of the historically lax traffic inforcement near Alki Beach there is often parking that obscures visionof drivers.

We absolutely need these speed bumps for the safety of our young children & senior citizens, as well as for the rest of us. Speeding is endemic & many drivers go 55 mph+ on this block. Please, please put in speed bumps!!!

Live on 56th but up the hill. Would also appeal for speed bumps on our street.

We live on 56th and witness speeding drivers every day, coming from both directions. This is risking injury or worse to many but especially to children whose families park along the street to go to the beach as well as the children and seniors who live and walk in our neighborhood. Speed bumps along 56th and the lower part of the hill at SW Lander would go a long way to reduce the speeding and save lives.

Traffic control devices and more aggressive speed bumps are needed on Alki Ave sw. I would go so far as to limiting motor vehicle traffic on alki to residents and people who work in the neighborhood. The speed humps in place now are not effective and stoplights would do a great deal to improve safety.

This street desperately needs traffic calming.

Speed bumps save lives

You GOT to do something about these cars crashing into house. It's ridiculous. Why wait for someone to get hit by a car to take action!

I live at the bottom of the hill and have seen so many near misses and reckless drivers over the years. I know it is a main emergency response path, but speed bumps would help slow traffic and still allow for emergency access.

And a stop sign at the intersection of 56th Ave SW and SW Lander St please!

Please do something about the speeding traffic here. Someone is going to get killed one day.

Extremely dangerous and hard to believe there aren't more accidents

Please put stop sign at the corner of landers and 56th and speed bumps on 56th. People come flying down the hill and I have to cross this street to take my kids to school.

Speed bumps are a much needed addition to 56th Ave SW!

I witnessed my family’s home being hit twice, with one incident of a speeding wreckless driver blasting through the fence and coming inches within my parents bedroom while they are sleeping. We are in extreme urgent help of speed bumps being installed through these streets to help prevent this ongoing problem. My family’s lives have been put at risk multiple times as well as their neighbors lives too. It is not a matter of if it will happen again it’s a matter of when.

As a resident, and homeowner whose property has been hit twice this year by hit-and-run drivers from opposite directions, I am directly affected. I watch kids, parents, beachgoers at risk due to speeding vehicles. I've seen my neighbors homes and cars damaged and so far nothing has been done to solve it through SDOTs webpages for speed bumps so we are organizing to elevate the concerns to decision makers. Looking forward to making change happen together.
