Quite simply we have the right to request flexible working hours (https://www.gov.uk/flexible-working/overview) and the option to complain to an employment tribunal if we are not dealt with fairly. For those of us with children, working at 8am with such short notice is impossible

It is a shame that the 8am-5pm shift pattern has been scrapped as this would have achieved the best of both worlds. On SSU which already started 30 mins earlier, it was difficult to leave at 4:30pm for the points mentioned in the petition, 4pm will be even worse

We have read your comments posted above and appreciate your concerns. For the avoidance of doubt, we wanted to share with you exactly what we have done so far in terms of engaging with those affected by the proposals we are suggesting.
We strongly believe that what we are proposing will improve medical handover, patient care and flow. In fact 8am starts already take place within surgery and anaesthetics in our own organisation.
We have been actively discussing rota options with trainees at Junior Doctors Forums, Medical Workforce Group (which does have Junior Doctor representation) and taken feedback from trainees who have been asked to draft workable rota options. Clearly there is more we can and will do before any decision is made.
We would like to make clear that any changes will only be made after consultation and with agreement from trainees, as well as obtaining approval to ensure training requirements are maintained or improved.
We would like to meet with everyone affected by the proposal, or ensure that they get information directly about what is planned and how they can feedback. We will be contacting directly everyone potentially affected by any change.

Pls treat our doctors well rather than introducing measures which makes things worse, demotivates and we lose them to other countrie. Lets nuture, grow, protect our own.

I'll mention this to the Safety Director and Junior Doctors Training Committee today, if this proposed change is true it seems quite ill thought out and potentially dangerous.

Don't do this. You are trying to reinvent the wheel a little here and in doing so will drive the final nail into the proverbial coffin sending more and more doctors overseas. It's already bad enough as it is, why make it worse? Let's listen to the people that actually do the job and stick to what we know works.

Aside from all the above points which I whole-heartedly agree with, I also agree that for those that also have commitments e.g nursery/school drop off for children, arriving at work for 8am is near on impossible.

One other point not considered is the out of work life of the junior doctors; schools starting time for those who have caring duty and need to drop of their children at the school, etc.
