Dear Town Council,

This petition is to address the changing of the road names in the glorious city of Kuala Lumpur.

Navigating through KL is already not an easy task. Therefore I don’t see any benefits for anyone thinking of ever stepping foot in KL.

Here are some potential drawbacks to the change of road names:

1. Complicates the task of Navigating Kuala Lumpur

Imagine trying to navigate KL in search of your favourite food stall only to find out that the road you are looking for in Waze no longer exists.

You then realize that not one road “disappeared” from the map but 8 of them are now gone.

This could potentially lead to traffic congestion and getting lost in the big city of KL.

Well at least employers can now tell their employees that they got lost without actually lying right?

2. Bad for tourist

Tourists would definitely use online guides and blogs to help the search out the beauty of the city. Who uses maps nowadays anyway?

After all, KL being rich in food and tourist spots can be overwhelming for somebody without a plan. However, most information on the web uses the current road names(before the change) to help people locate a particular spot.

Changing road names will make cause tourist to never be able to find the place they are looking for. In fact, it will turn Kuala Lumpur into a maze and they would be better of searching for Atlantis.

Also, if Ipoh road changes to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah , what would happen to the famous Ipoh Road Yong Tau Fu that was named after the road? I would think that Azlan Shah Yong Tau Fu wouldn't sound as right because that is not even the name of founder of that restaurant.

Last but not least, how can you decide to just change a road name? Changing road names isn’t as simple as changing your clothes.

To put it into perspective, imagine having a child name John. For 18 years, this boy is known as John. And all achievements, certificates and trophies have been inscribed with the name John.

And out of a sudden, John is forced to change his name to Dominic. What would ever happen to all the people who knew him as John? How are you going to change the names on his medals, trophies and birth certificate?

Heck, how are you even going to find him on Facebook?

I would think road names in Kuala Lumpur are like children to the city, and I would imagine you don’t go around simply changing the name of your child.

For those who would still want easier navigation around the city, happy tourist and the preservation of our road names in KL, please sign this petition to let the council know they are trying to fix something that isn't broken.
