Speak out to the Napa DA in support of just punishment for felons who steal grapes

This crime should not go unpunished. It is very important that a precedent should be set to detour others from attempting to steal from vineyards/grapes that clearly do not belong to them.

I agree with you that theft of our produce should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I as a small avocado farmer having that done to me would devastate my farm

If Mr Hill had stolen money rather than grapes would he have the chance of pleading for a misdemeanor? He deserves to pay the price for stealing grapes.

This crime should not be reduced to a misdemeanor. He does not deserve to operate a winery or be involved in the wine industry. It is unethical what he has done. It is a priveledge to work in the wine industry and to steal from the best vineyards in Napa Valley it is a shame. One charge has already been dropped that is all the leaniency he should get.

Let's have some real justice!

I completely agree. If this individual is not punished to the full extent of the law, based on the value of the grapes he stole, this will set a precedent for other criminals. It's better to set the right precedent now and stop future criminal activity. This was clearly intentional! If more of these crimes happen I will be the one suffering, as a customer, because production will decrease and prices will increase.

California thrives due to a great extent by relying on the massive amount of agriculture business that supports our government's need for valuable trade and uncountable jobs. Reducing sentencing in this case could set a precedent that could adversely affect the prosperity of our state and agriculture workers (and support/downstream businesses) for decades to come. Grand theft should not ever be considers as a misdemeanor .

The nature and magnitude of this crime constitutes a felony conviction. Justice must be served. Furthermore, don't understand why the Oct 21 charges were dropped!

Reduction of a crime is not the message for a just society. Give an inch they will take a mile.

I'd be interested to know why this crime, to which the accused has already plead guilty, is even being considered for leniency. It sounds like this guy already got the gift of a lifetime by having the Oct. 17th theft charges dropped. And what are the results of the investigation into the Oct. 17th theft? Why were those charges dropped?

We support this petition...lowering the bar for an offender's accountability, in this severe offense, sends a very unjust message. Please hold adults responsible for their actions.
