Give Voting Rights to Irish Living Abroad

Presently, Ireland deprives its citizens abroad of the right to vote in Irish elections. Approximately 3 million Irish citizens live abroad, and more and more are forced to leave their friends and family each day due to the recent economic downturn. Many of these emigrants hope to return home but have no say in the running of their home country. Another group unforgivably excluded from voting rights is the Irish abroad on work visas, many of whom will definitely return home within a year or two. Over 115 countries currently have systems in place that allow their emigrated citizens to vote, and Ireland can do the same. If you believe the Irish government should enact a change, please sign this petition to give Irish citizens abroad the right to vote in Ireland’s elections. Also, please share this petition through email, Facebook, and Twitter by clicking on the icons below the number of signatures on the right hand side of the page.
