Countless Marist alumni can unequivocally attest to the fact that there are not enough words to describe the dedication, commitment, excellence and kindness of Dr. B.

We are proposing to honor Dr. B by naming the Allied Health Building after him. This is a simple way to recognize the immeasurable effect that Dr. B has had on the School of Science during his over 50 years of service. There are currently no other contenders for the Allied Health Building’s namesake, and naming the building after Dr. B will fit with Marist’s rich tradition of christening buildings after integral individuals.

Dr. B with "His love of science and passion for teaching" has truly, "touched the lives of thousands of Marist students, giving us learning tools and life skills to be successful."

Over fifty years of full-time teaching at Marist is remarkable. Many science alumni were greatly shaped by his teaching, mentoring, and commitment towards all his students. Let us genuinely honor the man who dedicated his life to his students by dedicating a beautiful building that will "perpetuate his name on the Marist campus...and continue his legacy."

There is also currently a spotlight story about Dr. Joseph Bettencourt via the link below. Once there, there is another link to donate to the Dr. Joseph Bettencourt Scholarship Fund for future Marist students. (Designate as "Other Designation" and Bettencourt Scholarship).

In the words of Dr. B, "Have a fine day."

Marist '09 - I just finished my intern year as an ENT resident at Temple and I never would have made it this far without Dr. B. It is all thanks to Dr. B's constant support and efforts that I was able to get into medical school!

I am an alumna ('89) whose daughter (class of '18) is a Biology Major and speaks very highly of Dr. B and his true passion for teaching. He is highly regarded by my daughter Rebecca for the professor he is but more importantly for the person he is. This would be a true honor and testiment to the countless students whose lives he has touched.

Dr.B was my favorite professor and I learned so much from that I was apply in dental school. Along with being my favorite professor, he was my advisor all four years, and not sure I would've been able to do all that I did at Marist without his help.

Dr. Bettencourt was instrumental in assisting & advising my daughter through all 4 years at Marist. His help was immeasurable. Marist should use this opportunity to show their appreciation for his many years of dedication to the school and all the students.

I would not be where I am today without Dr. B. He not only gave me guidance when applying to PA school, but his classes 100% prepared me for my future education. He has dedicated his life to helping the students of the School of Science achieve their passions.

He is simply the best. He made even the hardest Science classes enjoyable to be in. He teaches with 100% genuine passion and treats students fairly but never denies them support. He is the best Professor I have ever had. My only regret at Marist is not taking more classes with him.

Dr. be with my longtime college professor and Mentor. I can’t think of a better way to embrace all of his magnificent, teaching and mentoring of students done by naming a building after him.
