Final supporters
The following residents of Homestead Valley have concerns about the scope of Marin Horizon School’s proposed expansion plan. We seek to influence the school to redesign the project to introduce a less aggressive footprint on the site so our views and quality of life in the neighborhood are much less impacted. Issues include (but are not limited to) the following items:
- Parking
- Water runoff
- Noise and light pollution
- Increase in the student population
- Construction staging and impact
- Size of the buildings (height & mass)
- Traffic (including proposed NIGHT & WEEKEND events)
- Loss of playground area for residents as well as students
- Non-compliance with the Tamalpais General Plan adopted by the Marin County Board of Supervisors and still very much in effect. The Plan’s stated purpose is “…to retain and enhance the conservation of the semi-rural small town and its close relationship with the natural beauty of its setting”.

This should be scaled back or rejected. The noise and traffic don't belong in a residential neighborhood

Marin Horizon should get the neighborhood to agree to any proposed plan
The scale and scope of this project are outrageous for its location. Best if it goes back to the drawing board with community input
The proposed expansion is way out of scale for the neighborhood, in mass and height. It is out of character and thus not in keeping with the Tam Area Community Plan. It does not fit in with its surroundings, which include: 1. The Homestead Valley Community Center, which serves as a neighborhood gathering space and which generates income for neighbor-serving programs. The HVCC was renovated in 2011, to great local acclaim and supported by a neighborhood bond measure. 2. The views afforded from the valley floor for all who walk the popular neighborhood loop, enjoy the Homestead meadow and community center, and continue to value such views as evidenced by overwhelming support of bond measures for the Homestead Valley Land Trust. 3. The immediate neighbors, all of whom stand to be heavily impacted by the proposed buildings’ mass and height, construction and other nuisances. The site and size of buildings as required by the state of California for a comparable public school (same number and age of students) would be 8 acres. This site is only 2.2 acres. It is time to stop shoe-horning more buildings and children into this site. The multipurpose building would loom over the new center and permanently ruin the ambience and views for attendees. The Homestead Pool, which has served the community (and generated income) for generations of Homesteaders would be overshadowed and dwarfed. Exhaust from the planned kitchen would cause cooking effluvient to waft over to the Homestead Center. This is inappropriate and unfair to Marin Horizon's neighbors. In addition to the above, I am concerned about construction staging for the proposed project on Montford Avenue, which would cause tremendous disruptions for the neighbors on that street and would cause massive disruptions for traffic enter
The oversized scope and the arrogance of this expansion proposal needs to change. We neighbors deserve an influential voice in the design/construction process.
