As a former alum of the Somers Varsity Softball team, the town of Somers and Parks & Rec needs to take action and make this happen asap. I played in college and it was sad to hear about the nice stadiums my teammates across the country had for their high school softball teams (lights, seats, in ground dugouts, cut grass, level infields, endless equipment) meanwhile, my team was moving from field to field without any softball regulations. Away teams hated coming to play us because of the fields we played on. This is the least that the town can do for the young girls, as there should technically be two fields one for varsity & JV and another for the younger teams. A regulation field with a permanent fence should be put up. The participation and development of this sport will occur if the town takes action. We will even have more credible umpires come to our fields and have the sport taken seriously with more competitive athletes on the teams. The boys sports in this town receive more recognition, endless fields and money than the girls teams and it is sad, make changes Somers.

as a previous somers softball player I can attest to what it's like moving from field to field, not knowing where you're playing today and how embarrassing it is that even at a high school level we do not have a regulation field we can play on. some of the players from my year were even getting scouted by college softball teams. Imagine their surprise when they realize we don't play on a regulation field. quite frankly it is an embarrassment and disgrace to this town and the softball program to not have a field we can call home. This affects how scouts see us, and how we practice. It is difficult to spend all your time practicing on a field that isn't designed for softball, so when you do play on a regulation field at another school you are thrown off. there should not be this discrepancy, and the fact that this haven't been changed already is saddening. girls athlete movement for equality on the field G.A.M.E ON!

What a shock ! Raining, football practice comes inside & Volleyball loses its scheduled time slot & told to wait. Girls Varsity Soccer or Lax has game & boys f/ball or lax have practice you know who gets turf field . 15 years experience has always been girls are 1 rung lower.

Most definitely the girls are discriminated against in every way - uniforms, fields, field time. A couple of years ago, I was at my daughters HS game which was a close one and running overtime. They actually ended the game prematurely so that a young age boys team could hold their PRACTICE on the VT field! Completely unacceptable. Never would be even thought of if it were the Somers Boys HS team playing in that situation...
