The lack of organization in the French dept is honestly ridiculous. We pay way too much tuition to be left without proper resources or clear guidelines on how we are actually being graded.

There is a great need for consistency in expectations, feedback, and practical resources and forms of assessment. Students should be taught by professionals and/or educators who can provide a high level of French resources that are relevant and applicable to their stream (pj, ji, or is).

This program has been very stressful, inconsistent and unfair as an overall experience. As a francophone student, who spent all of my schooling in A French First Language school, I found being taught by the professors at Althouse incredibly frustrating. Their goal is seemingly aimed mainly towards how to teach core french and their Immersion and First Language strategies were limited. I find it a little upsetting that my specialty, French Studies, a subject I’ve studied literally my entire life in all three institutions was my weakest mark in all of this experience. The program needs more consistency, professors that work with each other to create an experience that is beneficial to the students, and more feedback/ fair marking on tasks. I enjoyed several courses and professors throughout my experience, but based on my experience in the french program, I would not recommend Althouse to future French teachers as of now unless these areas were to improve.
