I am appalled by the behaviour of Ms. Elgie. There is absolutely no excuse for a school board trustee to use that word ever! Ms. Ellie's "apology" is not nearly good enough. If she had a single shred of decency she would have resigned already!

Head injury or not that is no excuse to demean another human being for anything especially the color of their skin. Elgie should politely resign her seemingly near decade "entitled" post at YRDSB or YRDSB should ask her to leave. Discrimination has no place in education. A new bi-election should not wait in the wake of all the other investigations YRDSB is facing as well.

No excuses are acceptable. Zero tolerance means zero tolerance. I'll be watching the other trustees very closely on this--and I'll vote accordingly in the next election.

Elgie must resign or be fired from the board. This behaviour is unacceptable in Canada, and we must send that message out loud and clear.

As a former YRDSB student, I am disgusted by the inaction on this file. This lady made a comment that was wildly unacceptable and should be removed from her position, regardless of her age or widowed status. How else can you possibly maintain some semblance of dignity as an organization that promotes inclusion and diversity?

YRDSB must be accountable to their zero tolerance policy for discrimination. This is a clear act of racism and it is clearly unacceptable. If you're not part of the fight against racism, you are part of the problem.

Unacceptable, What message are we going to send? That this behavior is tolerated, or not?

It is embarrassing that we even have to do this. How can the Board be resisting the right decision?

Unacceptable- an apology does not erase the harms of the blatant racism this public servant did. Cannot apologize and keep your job without consequence
