It saddens me to read this petition as this is not far from home. As a community this is the right thing to do. I thank the person who started this petition and you have my support!! 100%

This is yet another piece of evidence of the ongoing and unaddresed systemic anti-Black racism that exists in this country's institutions. The education system is not exempt and you cannot use buzzwords like diversity, inclusivity, equity and anti-discrimination without the actual commitment and ACTION to protect Black youth and their parents who are subjected to this regular violence. Apology not accepted.

If this is how she speaks to parents, what message does this send to the students?

We will continue to work to get beyond this sort of thing. There is no room for such racist behaviour in Canada.

We need people in office who can comport themselves properly and aren't prone to react with such levels of base disrespect. It is an abject abuse of power.

For a newly constituted board and chair to affirm a declaration which does not tolerate discrimination in all its forms for which each member of the board of education is to subscribe, it is inconsistent that Ms. Elgie by her comments. Her comments led to an investigation concluded, she spoke the offending words. How can it be that in light of the fact finding and her apology that, she is worthy to continue to represent the residents of York Region in the elected position of Trustee? Surely, her constituents deserve more in their elected officials, do they not? Ms. Elgie should do the honourable thing and resign. The new Chair of the Board should lead the board through a comprehensive anti-racism education. Perhaps, some time should be devoted to Anti-Black racism

Absolutely unacceptable behavior from an "educated" adult. There is no room for this ignorance to continue. It is 2017. Enough is enough. We must go forwards to end racism everywhere.

There shouldn't even need to be a petition. Once it was established/confirmed that this indeed occured, this woman should have been terminated. If a derogatory term had bern directed at anyone else (other tgan a black) guaranteed they would be gone. This goes to show and highlight the systemic racism that plagues our system. Shame on you Director of the YRDSB. Shame on you.
