It is disgusting and shameful that a board of education can behave this way. Anna DeBartolo and JParapally need to go. So does Nancy Elgie, Linda Aversa (forcing ppl to change her daughthers marks - Tor Star) and Peter L trustee who was interviewed by Desmond Cole this past weekend...they should NOT be representing children!

Shame. This school board is clearly demonstrating that they are incapcble of serving its diverse students and families. This needs to end.

UN-ACCEPT-ABLE. Nancy Elgie needs to be removed from her position. She does not represent the best interest of your school board, or the public at large.
What do you want your students to take away from this situation? Are these words acceptable? Do you tolerate hate speech?

No excuse for her action. She can no longer be entrusted with making decisions about the welfare of visible minority children and youth.

This kind of language is not acceptable from someone in this position.

Just watched coverage of this story on CityTV News. The Director of Education and other officials made it clear they have no plans to remove Elgie or reprimand her in any way for her inexcusable behaviour. She must be held accountable for her actions. Anything less will be perceived by the community as a denial of wrongdoing on the part of York Region educators, and they will be viewed as being complicit in the denigration of an entire segment of black York constituents, parents and sadly, their children. Shame on you all.

You can't say that you accidently said the 'n' word when you were upset, but you are definitely not a racist. This isn't logical. Racists cannot be involved in public education.

An apology is not enough. She is not competent and needs to be fired.

If racism is going to be eradicated, a higher standard must be set.
