Nancy Elgie's use of a racial slur against a parent in the YRDSB is offensive and deeply problematic. Elgie is not qualified to do her job. Her racism is inexcusable and the YRDSB cannot condone this individual's continued employer in a position of power.

How can a board preach zero tolerance, yet not remove a trustee from such an important position?

Such foul and in-Canadian behaviour on the part of someone who is supposed to represent ALL residents in her district. Just embarrassing!

Unacceptable behavior, especially for elected official who are supposed to be modeling behavior for young people.

This is not acceptable behaviour for anyone let alone a person who has any influence on the lives of our children. Please resign immediately, Ms. Elgie. You are a disgrace to our city and the values we hold dear.

Unacceptable behaviour for which a mere apology is insufficient.

I hope there was outrage at this meeting and that every person there walked out. Anything otherwise is shameful.

Elgie has no place holding public office. What kind of example does she set for children and her colleagues?

This woman needs to be removed immediately. To use that term publicly or privately but especially towards a PARENT in unacceptable. The excuses for the reason this slur was used is ridiculous and disrespectful. The fact that we need a petition for this is heartbreaking to say the least.

Removing Nancy Elgie or accepting her resignation is in the best interest for the school board, teachers and ultimately the students.

You should not make exceptions. She should have to step down for this!
