Call for Resignation of YRDSB Trustee Nancy Elgie for Calling a Black Parent "Nigger"

The only way we're going to see change is if there are consequences to this type of behaviour.

Racism has no place in our schools.

Racism hides in many different places...and inside this woman is one place. She needs to removed from her post because clearly she thinks she's in a place of power to be saying this nonsense.

Not acceptable

If she says this in public, I wonder what she says in private.

This makes me very upset to understand that someone of that stature call a concerning parent out of their name, is disgusting and very disturbing. Situations like this, should never occur and because I feel very strongly about this, her position should no longer be where it is.

This should not need a petition, it is obvious what needs to be done!

I am hurt and disgusted by such language and this wound can not and will not begin to heal until she is gone.

Ms. Elgie does not represent the kind of education systems I want or that I fight for. NO RACIST SCHOOL TRUSTEES. We have to hold racists accountable if we're going to create anti-racist education, and she has no right to continue holding such an important position.

As a Canadian I am appalled that York District School Board allows & tolerates such racist & discriminatory behavior from a member.

It is utterly disgraceful that Ms. Elgie has been permitted to remain in her role. Those responsible for not dismissing her are implicitly condoning her actions by not enacting the full penalty outlined by their own procedures.

It's time to take real action, things need to change in our school system.

It is an absolute disgrace that a person who not only expresses such blatant racism, but refuses to be accountable for her loathsome display of racism, should be allowed to remain in a position that gives her power and access to children's education. The YRDSB MUST take a stand and compel Nancy Elgie to resign as a strong statement to publicly show that there is a zero-tolerance policy for racism within the school system.

Nancy Elgie has shown herself to be incompetent in her responsibilities as school trustee, namely setting the example that discrimination and violence will not be tolerated in schools. Shame.

This is disgraceful.

Any other politician would have resigned by now. The entitlement at the YRDSB has to stop!

First of all thank you for outing yourself as an outright blatant racist in a position of power over our children. Many others I'm sure feel the same but are clever enough to hide it. Secondly, how can an apology make up for the use of the new word from a public official? Please do the right thing and resign.
