French Immersion is fundamentally important -- for language acquisition skills especially. Our language learning in our brains peak at age 9 -- why would we take away the opportunity for two years of learning before that age?
Please, GEDSB, don't waste money, resources, time, and teachers' jobs, not to mention a logistical nightmare for parents who want their children of differing age groups to attend French Immersion programs.
Don't scrap this valuable program!

my daughter is in SK at Ecole Fairview. I can not emphasize what a wonderful program this is. I have watch my daughter blossom in the past year and a half because of her experiences there and I am amazed daily by her expanding French vocabulary. I believe that all parents should have the option to have their children begin their learning in JK with exposure to both of our national languages.

My daughter is in grade 1 at Fairview. JK and SK taught her the fundamentals of french which paved the way for her to learn more advanced things this year in grade 1. If she was starting from scratch this year she wouldn't be learning even close to the level she is now. Scrapping JK and SK French Immersion shouldn't even be a consideration.

Having two children in the FI program already I have seen an immense difference from every other day to every day kindergarten with having my second accel with vocabulary and understanding French. I have my youngest starting in 2016 hopefully in the FI program. Yes it will be an inconvenience and will be difficult to juggle two schools but I am most concerned with what he will miss in two years of not being in the program.

This is ridiculous. To remove the most important years (the formative years) from a child's French language education is absurd.

I do not understand why you would consider taking french from JK & SK when at those ages kids will retain more info, so the longer it's put off the harder it will be for the children.. besides that why should the children learn a different language to start that differs from what language they will be learning later?

I vote to save the JK/SK French Immersion Program and put our children's learning needs above poor planning and budget restrains with in GEDSB. Put the Education of Children First!

As an FI kindergarten teacher, I've personally seen the benefits of early french immersion, especially in the full day kindergarten environment. Please don't jeapordize the success of the french immersion program by delaying entry until grade 1.

Please don't eliminate the FI kindergarten program. I currently have children in grade 2 and jk and the success I have personally experienced this first few months of jk has been just amazing! And I truly believe that my oldest who is in grade 2 would not be speaking at the level that she is if she didnt get to experience jk\sk. The earlier the better.
