Elmhurst Extended Care Center, located at 200 E. Lake Street is a for-profit nursing home. The owners purchased three lots just south of the facility, tore down the homes and are now planning to expand their facility south onto Fremont Avenue, a residential street. Besides building a large commercial structure, they plan to add additional parking, which would be accessed from Fremont Avenue which is a dead end street with existing parking restrictions on the north side of the street already. Residents in this area are concerned about property values, additional population density, traffic, and more importantly the precedent this will set for allowing commercial facilities to be located within residential areas in Elmhurst.
