Gov Newsom: Don't make a deal with the DEVIL at Diablo Canyon

I do ñot want nuclear power. On local media , t is the employed scientists from Diablo who are driving this.

Diablo Canyon MUST be shut down! It is another Fukushima just waiting to happen! It never should have been built there in the first place and it must not be allowed to continue in operation. You must not risk the health and welfare of millions of California residents by allowing it to remain in operation.

Please close the very dangerous nuclear plant

However, you MUST do MUCH MORE. We MUST keep ALL climate-changing fossil fuels IN THE GROUND! We MUST achieve 100% clean, renewable energy by 2030. And nuclear energy is NOT the Answer. The short-run and the long-run dangers are FAR TOO GREAT.

So much for selling us "clean energy" when they didn't know what to do with the waste that was getting pumped out of what were 400 nuclear plants worldwide!!!!

CA has enough threats to our safety without worrying about nuclear reactor meltdowns!

Diablo Canyon reaches the end of its useful life in 2025. “Useful life is the amount of time during which something is in good enough condition to be used,” Merriam-Webster. Efforts to extend the useful life of San Onofre resulted in a radioactive leak. Do not make the same mistake with Diablo Canyon.

Although a difficult task, converting from nuclear is renewables is reasonable, responsible, safer and ultimately cost effective.

Not good economic sense!

Governor Newsom’s proposal to extend the operation of the Diablo Canyon nuclear facility for 20 years is an outrage to Californians seeking reliable and safe energy for our state.    * 1) Don’t fall for the false claim that we’ll experience blackouts without Diablo Canyon online! Diablo Canyon IS NOT a dependable power source.  According to Nuclear Regulatory Commission data, it averages one or both reactors being shutdown 40% of every year!  Extending the life of Diablo Canyon actually increases our risk for blackouts. Newsom knows full well that battery storage of our renewable energy is the answer in sunny California. Battery storage & solar powers my car and home. It’s widely known that battery storage will more than cover any loss from Diablo’s closure. * 2) Governor Newsom's plan grants $1.4 Billion as a ‘forgiveable loan’ from Californians to PG&E and exempts the convicted corporate felon from state safety regulations.  There’s absolutely nothing forgivable about this idea. When profits are privatized & losses are passed onto the public without one concern for safety, you end up like Japan, a country which has paid dearly for its manmade disaster, the Fukushima triple nuclear meltdowns. I know, I witnessed Fukushima first-hand and evacuated my family from Japan. * 3) Currently, there is absolutely no Federal plan to store our nation’s radioactive waste, the dangerous bi-product of energy generated by nuclear power. In fact, the Department of Energy only unveiled their plan to define consent based siting of our nation’s nuclear waste THIS YEAR. Meanwhile, taxpayers funded the failed national repository at Yucca Mountain project to the tune of billions, decades ago! PG&E intends to apply for a 20-year license renewal. Letting Diablo run beyond its current licenses would add hundreds of tons more high-level radioactive waste, lethal for hundreds of generations, to the hundreds of tons already unsafely stored onsite. Wind and solar are the safe renewables ready and needed now.

It's a ticking time bomb; shut it down now!

The dangers of nuclear reactors on several Earthquake faults and radioactive waste make this option for restoring Diablo a Fukushima just waiting to happen (quoting a bit from previous remarks!)

A five year extension will cost ratepayers about $1 billlion per year = $5 billion - $1.4 b = $3.6 billion we pay.

I lived in San Luis Obispo for 20 years. PLEASE SHUT THIS THING DOWN.

Please close Diablo Canyon NPP. Why risk a meltdown when solar+storage is cheaper?
