I am disgusted with this action of the council. As the wife of a veteran I feel they are out of touch with the sacrifices service people and their families make.

Marching and miliary ceremonies give people a sense of pride and morale. Anyone who doesnt respect our military, clearly doesnt recognise their sacrifices made by them and their families. The concept that military associations need to pay for the 'privilage' of marching is simply a disgrace. What? You have another event in that area that preceeds the importance of recognising the people who keep us safe?

As a person who has attended the Newcastle dawn service for 24 years of my 25 year existance I find this to be utterly disgraceful. Having the associations at these services are what these services are all about! My partner is in the Navy and every year he does not march with his unit or ship. He pays his respect to his grandfather's memory and marches with the Hobart association in Sydney. Memorial services are there to support those who unquestionably fought for their countries. To try and inflict the humiliation of having to bring their own chairs etc speaks greatly of the disrespect to the diggers who fought and lost their lives for the very people that sit high and mighty on this shameful shamble of a council.
