Keep Ft. De Russy Volleyball Courts Open

I have been playing on these courts since 1996. These courts are a huge part of my annual vacation and I would hate to see them closed. Please find an alternate location to store equipment.

The community and military need this unique facility to continue to promote fitness and a healthy life style. Local & Veteran, Retired Navy.

There is no reason to have the contractor hold their equipment on the beach court. They could keep the equipment in a different location, (parking structure, for example). Don’t disrupt the volleyball community at Fort Derussy.

Ft. Derrusy beach volleyball courts brings the community together.

Please keep the courts open and bring back the picnic tables! This park helps bridge the gap between the military families and local residents (many who are former military).

This must remain open for the residents of Waikiki.

I had the best time of my life on the courts. I love Fort De Russy community from the bottom of my heart! Please find storage somewhere else and keep the community alive!

Plenty of open grass that is never occupied in that area.

Volleyball is such an inexpensive sport that brings people together of all ages. Isn't that what we need in this age of hyper divisiveness?

Save our courts

Fort derussy won't be the same if these courts shutdown. From tourists to locals, near and far, these 2 beach courts means a lot to many!

Just wanted to sign this, as I've spent 3,5 years of my life on these courts while studying. It was not only a place of exercise, but to meet new people, friendly and familiar, gathering around an activity we all loved in a beautiful environment! I've met lifelong friends there, and friends I barely talk to anymore, but which I'm sure I would find if I ever return to play there. Such a wonderful spot and a great familiarity for those using the courts.

We love beach volleyball at fort derussy! Don’t take it away from us! It brings friends, family, and new friends together! <3

There are not enough beach courts. Please keep the FT D courts open.

We always treated this beach the best way we could. If I may say, the courts belong to your hearts as much as they belong to nature itself. It's a place of friendship and freedom.

The sands courts are too popular to lose.Its our Zen zone.

Swiss Tourist like the Russy-Courts. D'ont destroy them!

Public sand volleyball courts are a severely limited and extremely valuable resource in Hawaii. to the community, Volleyball is such a popular sport in Hawaii and can be played by people of all ages and backgrounds, bringing them together. By creating a place for exercise, and strengthening social bonds, these courts represent a vital service and a critical piece of the local infrastructure. The closure of these courts would be detrimental to the community on a number of levels. The city of Honolulu, recognizing the shortage of courts on the island, devoted $450,000 to build two courts at Ala Moana. This demonstrates the economic value of spaces like these. Within a couple weeks, those courts are already being used beyond their capacity. While the city hopes to build more in the future to meet the demand, it will be some time before the next courts are opened, and closing the existing courts at Fort Derussy would be a big step backwards. The Hale Koa hotel should recognize the positive impact these courts have on the community and seek an alternative solution to closing the courts that preserves this important meeting place for activity and connection.

This is a beautiful place of cultural integration and exposure that has a long history in establishing international friendships and a community for those who enjoy the sport and the camaraderie that the environment produces. Fort DeRussy is a wonderful place. Please keep it open.
