This is my favorite place to come play volleyball and hang at the beach when I come visit Oahu and stay at the Hale Koa. I can’t believe they are closing the courts!

I'm sure there are other areas to stage equipment, Ft. Derussy sand courts are so important to many, please consider alternative. On the positive side, could this be an opportunity to maybe revitalize the two courts??? Just a thought.

Please keep these courts open and available for us to use in the coming year. I travel from the other side of the island to utilize these courts. I have met amazing people I now call friends, both local and visitors alike. It is a safe area for us to play. There aren’t many courts around the island or on the bases that are kept up or the sand clean enough for us to play, and owning a net system is very costly. We really do appreciate being able to play on the Hale Koa courts, and hope that you hear our plea. Mahalo nui

I grew up going to the Fort Derussy volleyball courts with my family and and extended family on the weekends, to say this place has a special place in my heart is an understatement. Not only has this place seen kids grow but it also helped a lot of people come together and grow their love for the beach volleyball game. Every time I come back home this is the first place I want to go to. It saddens me that the Hale Koa doesn't see the immense value of this small space. The regulars there help keep the courts beautiful and running, my uncles bring new lines for the equipment so that people can continue to enjoy the courts. I also know that many of the people who come and play spend their money at the Hale Koa to buy food regularly. Please reconsider closing the courts to use as storage or for any time for that matter. Please continue to let this place be a special place for locals and visitors.

I am a regular tourist to Waikiki and have spent many hours watching the volleyball here! I would be sad to see it go.

Please keep these courts opened! We were able to stay at the Hale Koa hotel and found an amazing volleyball community that is established there. Not only do these players love this park, but they also contribute to the income of its surrounding stores by purchasing food and beverages when they play there (which is very frequently). We hope next time we visit the Hale Koa that these courts will still be there. It is one of our forever cherished places to visit now.

There must be some way to keep at least the Beach side court open. They have to fence all around the site anyway. Just leave the one sand court outside the fence. Closing the whole site down smells like they have an Alternative plan that we have nothing to say about. If you want to direct what is built in Hawaii then you need to buy it say the people that stole it yo begin with.

I visited Fort Derussy three years ago and I got to see firsthand how the community thrives on welcoming many to the volleyball courts. Playing volleyball with locals and tourists alike made for a fantastic addition to my trip! It would be very disappointing to not be able to see the area again in the future.

Had the pleasure of playing here many years ago. This place is the only place in Waikiki to play ball.

Great park for the community to get together and enjoy the beauty Hawaii has to offer. Tourists, locals and business travelers all come together here. Would be a big loss to the community.
