I sincerely believe that every effort will be made to keep Calvin Coolidge open and that the modernization will happen to bring Coolidge up to standards other Icon High Schools in the city have completed.

The colors Orange and Gray are a part of my early life. I am from the graduating class of 1971. Many years ago and many memories ago. I hope to reflect on those in my later years which are upon me now. I hope to keep my high school open and vital in my mind when I take that final journey.

From the graduating class of 1969, I favor Calvin Coolidge remaining open under all circumstances. It is a fine school and has provided a quality education to many.

DC has tolerated almost a decade of a strategic, systematic campaign to "starve, test, punish and close" our public schools to justify the proliferation of charter schools and school vouchers. Privatization is the name of the game and siphoning students and public dollars from our public education coffers is the process for doing it. DC has closed over 40 of its public schools of right in the past decade and allowed charter schools to proliferate in some of the most underserved communities in the District. It's the biggest scam I have witnessed since beginning my teaching career in DC. If DC citizens don't step up and speak up to stop the systematic privatization of public education in the District, we will find ourselves spiraling back to a "separate, but not equal" school system that will only serve to pad the pockets and bank accounts of "education and schools for sale" profiteers and charter operators who are in the education game for the wrong reasons.
