Billy was such an important part of the scene. He didn't care if his shows made money. He just put the best bands together to play and dance the night away. We need more Billy Ruanes in this world.

Billy's love for Central Square and his open-minded, open-handed commitment to bringing music of all styles to the area are the stuff of legend. He remained a fan, first and foremost, and a quintessential Cantabrigian: intelligent, energetic, and determined to have an impact on the world around him. Let's celebrate his success in that endeavor with a Billy Ruane Square at Brookline and Green, where I can still see him sitting on his moped, grinning wildly and recommending some show or other -- usually more than one.

One of a kind. An icon. Left his beautiful big hearted sloppy indelible mark on decades of Boston area music and art. I can't think of a more deserving subject for a statue in Central Sq.
